About the Role and Employer

Join Banana Island Resort Doha By Anantara, operated by Minor Hotels which oversees a global portfolio of over 530 properties spread across 50+ countries. We aim to serve diverse traveler needs through our various brands including Anantara.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review the upcoming day's transfer and excursion schedule each evening, familiarizing yourself with guest details and special requirements.
  • Prepare the boat according to trip needs and operational procedures, ensuring availability of cold towels, beverages, seasickness bands, and during rainy seasons, provide raincoats and towels.
  • Ensure compliance with checklist procedures before departure.
  • If meals are missed during trips for yourself or crew, coordinate with the Launch Section Manager or coordinator to arrange food from the resort or on-site, adhering to approved pricing.
  • Maintain cleanliness and readiness of the boat and crew presence 30 minutes prior to guest boarding, ensuring uniform and grooming standards are followed.
  • Prioritize guest comfort and safety throughout every voyage.
  • Strictly adhere to maritime laws and regulations issued by the Ministry of Transport & Communication of the Republic of Maldives.
  • Keep the Sea Worthy certificate on board, ensuring all its conditions are met.
  • Carry your Captain’s License on all trips.
  • Maintain cleanliness and operational condition of the boat and equipment; report maintenance needs promptly and coordinate with Engineering and management until resolved.
  • Construct and maintain anchor points and navigation lights as needed.
  • Take thorough safety precautions to prevent incidents, such as checking for fuel leaks, ensuring availability of life jackets, and working fire extinguishers.
  • Assess weather conditions to determine trip feasibility, informing management accordingly.
  • Carry and maintain charged communication devices such as boat mobile phone and radio set while on duty.
  • Operate the boat with guest and crew safety foremost.
  • Act as a liaison between airport hosts and resort operators for coordinating guest arrivals and departures and addressing any requests or issues during trips.
  • Communicate any boat or guest concerns promptly with the Launch Section Manager or coordinator.
  • Request replacements for consumables and materials onboard when required.
  • Respond to guest inquiries efficiently and handle any complaints within your authority, documenting incidents as necessary.
  • Collect guest feedback during trips and communicate it to relevant departments for follow-up.
  • Report any crew disciplinary matters to management.
  • Participate in designated training sessions provided by the resort.
  • Demonstrate motivation and dedication, enthusiastically pursuing opportunities to enhance skills and guest service quality.
  • Foster positive team relationships and support colleagues to achieve departmental and resort goals.
  • Maintain a constructive attitude and proactively resolve issues.
  • Comply with Transport Department, Front Office, and Resort operating standards and policies.
  • Suggest improvements to resort procedures.
  • Promote resort services and facilities to guests and stakeholders actively.
  • Stay informed about updates in other resort areas and share relevant information within your team.
  • Uphold personal grooming, hygiene, and uniform standards in line with resort requirements.
  • Adhere to Resort Safety, Environment, and Workplace Health & Safety policies and legislations.
  • Follow guidelines outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by department heads or the Resort General Manager.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven experience as a Patrol Boat Skipper.
  • Possession of Oil Carrier Certification.
  • Between 2 to 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Effective English communication skills.
  • Strong technical proficiency related to boat operations.
  • A pleasing personality that supports guest engagement.
  • Capability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to efficiently handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
