Job description

Job Overview

This role is based at HM Prison Send in Woking, offering an opportunity to apply catering qualifications within a professional industrial kitchen environment. The position goes beyond conventional catering by involving the supervision of offenders preparing nutritious meals for the entire prison, contributing to their skills development and rehabilitation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee offenders engaged in meal preparation and cooking.
  • Ensure quality and nutritional standards are met across all meals.
  • Support offenders in acquiring new catering skills and qualifications.

Working Hours and Compensation

The position is 37 hours per week with shift patterns extending beyond standard 7am to 7pm Monday to Friday hours, including weekends and public holidays. A 20% unsocial hours allowance is added to the base salary when working these shifts. Part-time and job-share options exist subject to operational needs, but full shift coverage is required. Starting salary at Band 3 ranges from 34,928 to 36,778 inclusive of the allowance.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Level 2 Certificate in Food Production within Hospitality and Catering or an equivalent qualification.
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate.
  • Familiarity with current kitchen health, safety, and hygiene regulations.
  • Experience demonstrating competence in an industrial kitchen setting.
  • Fluency in English communication.
  • Willingness to complete Level 3 Vocational Qualification if not already attained.

Security and Eligibility

Candidates must pass a standard criminal record check and baseline personnel security check. The role is open to UK nationals, Irish nationals, qualifying Commonwealth citizens, EEA and Swiss nationals with appropriate settlement or work rights, Turkish nationals with rights in the Civil Service, and certain individuals with limited or indefinite leave to remain.
