Job Locations
Positions are based at three Approved Premises in Bristol: NMS Ashley House (BS2 8NB), NPS Brigstocke Road (BS2 8UB), and NPS Bridge Street (BS7 0PD).
Role Summary
This office-based role requires working onsite and is not suitable for remote work. Vacancies include full-time and part-time options at Brigstocke Road, and part-time at Bridge House and Ashley House. All sites offer annualised hours part-time contracts.
About Approved Premises
Approved Premises primarily accommodate offenders released on licence who require intensive supervision.
Role Overview
As a Residential Worker, you will aid offenders' transition from custody to community life by supporting their wellbeing and supervising them to comply with licence conditions. Your duties include conducting inspections, monitoring behaviours, engaging positively with residents, and collaborating with colleagues and partner agencies. Although primarily based at one site, you may be required to work across multiple locations.
Working Hours and Pay
- Regular unsocial hours are part of this role, which earn premium pay rates.
- Monday to Friday (7pm–8am): 30% premium
- Weekends (8am Saturday to 8am Monday): 50% premium
- Public/Bank Holidays (8am to 8am): 50% premium plus time off in lieu for hours worked
Flexibility and Contract Details
Part-time contracts offer annualised hours totaling either 625 or 1250 per year, roughly one or two 12-hour shifts weekly. Shifts cover a mix of standard and unsocial hours across all days. Applicants must have broad availability for day and night shifts seven days a week, which will be reviewed upon provisional offer.
Candidate Profile
While a degree is not necessary, strong personal qualities such as empathy, patience, and resilience are valued. Experience working with people facing social or personal challenges is desirable. Competency in literacy and numeracy is important due to required report writing.

The Probation Service supports offender rehabilitation and public safety for those pre- and post-release from prison or on community sentences. Staff come from diverse backgrounds and collaborate in a supportive team environment.
Eligibility and Work Authorization
Candidates must have the right to work in the UK and be eligible to work in the Civil Service. This role is not eligible for new Skilled Worker visas as per immigration rules effective 22 July 2025. Continuous Skilled Worker visa holders should disclose this for eligibility assessment. Employment depends on maintaining legal right to work within the Civil Service and UK.
Security and Compliance
Successful candidates will undergo standard criminal record and baseline personnel security checks.
