Job Purpose
The Open Water Instructor plays a central role on-site, responsible for conducting superior scuba diving training and delivering exceptional guest experiences in a luxury marine tourism setting. This role ensures safe, professional instruction consistent with international diving education standards, while also supporting dive center operations and encouraging marine environmental conservation.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct scuba diving courses following globally recognized standards such as PADI or SSI.
- Prioritize safety and professionalism in all training sessions, adhering strictly to company regulations.
- Deliver outstanding guest service to create memorable and engaging instructional experiences.
- Assist the Dive Center Manager with daily operational activities.
- Maintain a professional appearance reflecting luxury hospitality standards.
- Prepare training facilities, classrooms, and dive sites pre-opening and support equipment readiness.
- Gain thorough knowledge of local dive sites, training zones, and environmental factors.
- Lead academic, confined water, and open water sessions for both entry-level and advanced courses.
- Provide detailed pre-dive briefings and post-dive reviews.
- Closely supervise students during water activities to enforce safety compliance.
- Evaluate student performances and certify successful participants as per agency guidelines.
- Conduct diving activities with robust risk assessments and emergency readiness.
- Support dive excursions and guide certified divers as needed.
- Assist with equipment preparation, fitting, and maintenance post-dive.
- Keep meticulous student records, certification documents, and training logs.
- Advocate responsible diving practices and marine environmental awareness.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental protocols, including first aid and emergency certifications.
- Uphold corporate policies, standard operating procedures, and provide timely incident reporting.
- Stay current with evolving diving standards, teaching methods, and contribute to enhancing training programs and guest services.
Qualifications and Skills
- Certification as an Open Water Scuba Instructor from accredited agencies like PADI or SSI.
- Active instructor status with valid professional memberships.
- A minimum of two years' experience instructing scuba in commercial contexts.
- Up-to-date certifications in First Aid, CPR, AED, and Emergency Oxygen provision.
- Proven ability to instruct diverse learner groups across various skill levels.
- Experience within luxury tourism or resort environments preferred.
- Excellent English communication skills; Arabic language skills are a plus.
- Strong instructional, coaching, and customer engagement capabilities.
- Firm commitment to safety and guest satisfaction principles.
- Ability to interact effectively with multicultural and high-end clientele.
- Organizational aptitude and time management expertise.
- Professional demeanor consistent with luxury hospitality norms.
- Capable of independent work and cooperative team involvement.
Additional Desired Competencies
- Advanced or specialty instructor certifications (e.g., Rescue Diver, Specialty Instructor).
- Multilingual abilities, especially Arabic proficiency.
- Skills in underwater photography or videography.
- Knowledge of marine species identification and environmental conservation methods.
Work Context
This role operates within a luxury marine tourism and dive center environment. Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and peak tourist seasons is required. The position involves frequent in-water activities and exposure to diverse environmental conditions. The instructor is fundamental to ensuring safe, high-standard training and exceptional guest experiences in an immersive nature setting.
