Role Purpose

The Offshore Environmental Supervisor role supports the ABSER Business Line by overseeing environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives for offshore construction projects in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This includes managing environmental impact assessments, monitoring, pollution prevention, and reporting related to vessels, subcontractors, marine construction, and related activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing, reviewing, and implementing Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and Environmental & Social Impact Assessments (ESIA) for offshore projects.
  • Ensure adherence to environmental permits, regulatory requirements, and EIA commitments during offshore and marine operations.
  • Evaluate environmental aspects and impacts of activities such as vessel operations, pipelay, subsea work, dredging, and marine logistics.
  • Conduct environmental studies under various operating conditions to identify mitigation strategies.
  • Oversee marine environmental monitoring programs focusing on seawater quality, sediment, waste management, emissions, discharges, and pollution control.
  • Assess risks associated with offshore construction and develop measures to minimize impact on marine ecosystems and sensitive areas.
  • Ensure protection of ecologically sensitive marine environments during project execution.
  • Develop and execute Oil Spill Prevention and Response Plans, including coordinating emergency drills.
  • Perform environmental inspections, audits, and vessel assessments to confirm compliance with Environmental Management System standards.
  • Monitor environmental performance of contractors and subcontractors.
  • Participate in investigating environmental incidents and implementing corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with MARPOL Convention and other marine environmental regulations covering offshore construction, vessel operations, and pollution prevention.
  • Prepare reports on environmental performance, key performance indicators, statistical data, and lessons learned for management and clients.
  • Support greenhouse gas emission management, energy efficiency programs, and overall environmental sustainability initiatives at offshore project sites.

Candidate Profile

  • Possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Environmental Geology, or related fields.
  • Have at least five years of relevant experience in environmental management, preferably in offshore oil and gas construction or vessel-based operations. Familiarity with Saudi Aramco or equivalent client requirements is a plus.
  • Fluent in both English and Arabic.
  • Strong knowledge of Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001), EIA/ESIA processes, environmental permitting and compliance, marine environmental monitoring, waste and emissions management, oil spill prevention and response techniques, audits, incident investigation, GHG and sustainability reporting, and MARPOL regulations.
