Position Purpose
The Hook-up Engineer E&I will report to the Hook-up Manager and contribute to various company projects within the Hook-up Department.
Primary Responsibilities
- Coordinate and oversee all engineering tasks pertaining to Hook-up Electrical & Instrumentation activities.
- Provide expert input during bidding, project preparation phases (both in the Home Office and Yard), and offshore execution for Hook-up E&I engineering.
- Manage interactions with fabrication yards (internal/external) and Transportation & Installation teams to define scope and oversee carry-over work, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective offshore execution.
- Propose engineering solutions optimizing configurations for transport and installation that minimize offshore hook-ups and enhance construction sequences and methods.
- Contribute to engineering reviews including Constructability, 3D Model, and Hazard Identification (HAZID) assessments.
- Participate in performing Hook-up engineering tasks such as scope identification, preparation of procedures, and compiling discipline-specific work packages.
- Execute technical responsibilities involving drawings, material take-offs (MTOs), job cards, constructability reviews, and engineering analyses.
- Collaborate with Hook-up Planning and Control Analysts to align job cards with construction, installation, and commissioning schedules.
- Assist in developing multi-disciplinary Hook-up procedures and ensuring project deliverables are prepared, reviewed, and properly issued.
- Define subcontractor scopes and support technical bid evaluations for Hook-up activities.
- Develop marine spread specifications and manage related bids.
- Ensure efficient scheduling of marine spreads that is safe and cost-effective.
- Conduct vessel surveys to verify suitability for supporting Hook-up tasks, ensuring steady offshore manpower and material flow.
- Maintain accurate interfaces with other project functions during Hook-up engineering operations.
- Gather red mark-up documents on-site to aid in preparing As-Built drawings.
- Support the Hook-up Manager in overseeing Hook-up engineering efforts from all project phases, including updates to job cards as needed.
- Oversee the assessment of Welding, Piping, Coating, and Quality Control requirements, guaranteeing special needs are met before offshore campaigns.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, ideally Electrical & Instrumentation or a relevant engineering field.
- At least 8 years experience in Oil & Gas industry specialising as a Hook-up Engineer E&I.
- Demonstrated ability to support Hook-up tasks through bidding, engineering, fabrication yard, and offshore phases.
- Experienced interfacing with fabrication yards, transportation and installation contractors, and varied engineering disciplines.
- Sound knowledge of offshore construction, Hook-up methods, and execution of EPCI projects.
Language & Communication
- Fluent English communication skills both written and oral.
- Ability to work collaboratively within multinational project teams.
Technical and IT Skills
- Strong understanding of Hook-up E&I engineering principles and offshore construction processes.
- Competence in preparing and reviewing Hook-up procedures, work packages, material take-offs, and job cards.
- Familiarity with marine spread logistics and offshore installation constraints.
- Awareness of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements, offshore risks, and quality control coordination.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite including Excel (for tracking and planning), Word (for documentation), PowerPoint (for reporting), and Outlook (for coordination).
