Multimedia Engineer - Multimedia Software Development (Mandarin Speaking)

Overview

The Multimedia Platform team focuses on developing advanced multimedia processing systems that power TikTok's massive scale, including video transcoding, cloud editing, and image processing systems. This platform supports hundreds of millions of videos and tens of billions of images daily, enabling TikTok's dynamic content ecosystem. Our goal is to establish a leading multimedia processing infrastructure with a robust engineering architecture.

Role Responsibilities

• Contribute to building the video computing framework to manage high volumes of video content and complex business requirements efficiently.
• Address multimedia demands across diverse TikTok product lines such as image processing, video transcoding, editing, and analysis.
• Analyze and enhance performance for video processing components.
• Design and optimize large-scale multimedia systems to improve throughput, minimize latency, increase stability, and maximize resource efficiency.
• Work closely with product, algorithms, platform, and infrastructure teams to develop multimedia and AI-focused engineering solutions.

Qualifications

• Possess a Bachelor's degree or higher in Software Development, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Have at least two years of professional experience in software engineering, multimedia systems, high-performance computing, backend infrastructure, or heterogeneous computing.
• Proficient in one or more mainstream programming languages among C, C++, Python, or Go with strong coding, debugging, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Solid foundation in computer systems including operating systems, data structures, algorithms, networking, and concurrent programming.
• Fluency in both Mandarin and English to enable smooth collaboration with global teams and stakeholders in Mandarin-speaking regions.

Preferred Expertise

• Hands-on experience with multimedia technologies such as video codecs, detection, enhancement, image/video processing, or media framework development.
• Background in developing media processing frameworks and performance tuning for video-related processes.
• Knowledge of transcoding or computing platform construction is advantageous.
• Familiarity with GPU hardware architecture and expertise in inference optimization using tools like CUDA, CUTLASS, or comparable software stacks; experience with AI model performance evaluation and operator optimization on heterogeneous chips or accelerators is a plus.
• Understanding of popular large language models (LLM), multimodal models, mainstream inference frameworks such as vLLM and SGLang, alongside strategies for large model parallelism.
• Appreciation of quantization algorithms and operator optimization techniques for large models is considered beneficial.
• A motivated and optimistic outlook, strong sense of responsibility, attention to detail, and effective communication and teamwork abilities.
