Perplexity AI is on the lookout for a highly skilled Rust Engineer focusing on search technologies to enhance our fast-growing team. The role centers around pushing the limits on speed and efficiency of AI-driven search systems by strategizing and implementing scalable, dependable solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop an ultra-low latency search infrastructure using Rust.
• Continuously profile and instrument search services to reduce response times at scale.
• Maintain and improve distributed backend components that support real-time search and data retrieval.
• Work closely with product and infrastructure teams to devise systems delivering exceptional query speeds.
• Employ advanced concurrency, memory management, and network programming techniques to maximize throughput.
• Monitor, debug, and tune production workloads to ensure stable operation under heavy traffic.
• Participate in code review processes and provide mentorship for efficient Rust programming practices.

Candidate Requirements

• Extensive experience in Rust programming, specifically in backend and search infrastructures.
• Proficient in profiling and optimizing high-load, low-latency distributed services.
• Solid knowledge of systems architecture, Linux internals, and performance debugging tools.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS, and container orchestration technologies.
• Demonstrated success improving efficiency for search or data-heavy applications.
• Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and fast-moving environment, owning critical parts of the product codebase.
• Strong enthusiasm for benchmarking, instrumentation, and ongoing performance enhancement.
