Overview

Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) division is the driving force behind the delivery of Microsoft's cloud services such as Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and Azure. As a Mechanical Engineer within CO+I, you will play a key role in underpinning the infrastructure and core technologies supporting Microsoft’s online services worldwide.

Our globally distributed infrastructure encompasses over 200 data centers across 32 countries, with millions of servers supporting more than 1 billion users and 20 million businesses in over 90 countries. Primary Responsibilities

• Maintain a strong enthusiasm and ability to acquire new skills and knowledge.
• Promote a culture emphasizing safety, security, and regulatory compliance throughout all data center activities.
• Gain in-depth understanding of your data center's design and operational mechanisms.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams from IT and critical environments to support 24/7 on-site data center operations and mechanical infrastructure.
• Serve as the technical lead for the operational management of extensive mechanical systems and engineering designs on site.
• Partner with Operations and Design teams to contribute to data center mechanical system designs from initial planning through issue for construction for new builds and major upgrades.
• Develop and coordinate maintenance and safety protocols to sustain redundant, high-capacity cooling systems and backup electrical systems such as diesel generators and rotary UPS.
• Manage essential infrastructure integral to Microsoft’s online service deployments.
• Assist in selecting suppliers and oversee execution by mechanical vendors.
• Embody and promote Microsoft’s One culture and values, facilitating leadership through change and delivering impactful results.

Qualifications

Applicants should meet one of the following:

• 5 or more years of relevant technical engineering experience;
• OR a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline plus at least 2 years of related technical engineering experience;
• OR a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with a minimum of 1 year of related experience;
• OR equivalent professional experience.

Preferred qualifications include:

• 8+ years of related technical engineering experience;
• OR Bachelor's degree plus 5+ years experience;
• OR Master's degree plus 3+ years experience;
• OR Doctorate plus 1+ year experience in Mechanical Engineering or related field;
• OR comparable experience.

Background and Security Requirements

• Must successfully complete Microsoft's Cloud background check at hire and every two years afterward.
• Australian citizenship verification via valid passport is mandatory to comply with federal government security standards.
• Potential requirement for enhanced security clearance through Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (NV1/2, PV assessment).
