Role Summary

We are recruiting a Meat Specialist for the Lougheed PriceSmart Foods outlet located in Burnaby, BC. The ideal candidate must have full open availability and be prepared to work 40 hours each week.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Meat department by performing cutting, slicing, and trimming tasks on meat products.
• Operate essential meat processing equipment including knives, cutters, meat saws, and grinders.
• Serve as a team coach and mentor, fostering a positive and engaging work atmosphere.
• Maintain operational excellence through activities such as merchandising, customer service, hygiene, food safety adherence, ordering, receiving, minimizing product shrinkage, scheduling, and health and safety compliance.
• Manage department-related costs effectively including food supplies, labor, and packaging.
• Provide hands-on customer service and exemplify quality service standards for the team.
• Collaborate with the Department Manager to meet business objectives focusing on sales, productivity, margins, and expense control.
• Engage in monthly inventory and stocktaking procedures.

Qualifications and Experience

• At least 2 years’ experience handling meat saws, grinders, and knives proficiently.
• Ability to recognize various meat cuts accurately.
• Strong passion for quality food and delivering excellent customer service.
• Demonstrates a committed work ethic and proactive attitude.
• High integrity, enthusiasm and readiness to exceed expectations.
• Knowledge or experience in merchandising, inventory control, shrink management, and stocktaking.
• Understanding of food safety standards.
• Basic computer skills or willingness to learn.
• Food Safe Certification is an advantage.
• Fluency in Mandarin and/or Cantonese is considered a plus.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is between $18.50 and $22.75 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on location, qualifications, skills, and experience.
