About the Role
Parsons is seeking a skilled Material Inspector to join our team and ensure all construction materials meet project specifications and quality standards. You will conduct essential tests and inspections on-site to verify compliance, support quality assurance processes, and maintain detailed documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct inspection, sampling, and verification of incoming materials such as concrete, asphalt, aggregates, steel, pipes, cables, and finishes to ensure they meet approved submittals and project requirements.
- Perform and witness field and lab tests including concrete slump and cubes, compaction, rebar, and coating tests, adhering to relevant standards.
- Review material test reports from independent and project labs, ensuring their accuracy and compliance.
- Coordinate with contractors and laboratories to schedule timely testing and inspections, preventing delays in construction.
- Monitor material storage and handling on-site to avoid damage, contamination, or deterioration.
- Identify and quarantine non-conforming materials, ensuring corrective actions are implemented and documented.
- Maintain comprehensive records of inspections, tests, non-conformance reports, and approvals.
- Support review of material submittals, certificates of compliance, mill test certificates, and related documents.
- Verify the use of approved and traceable materials in construction works and document them properly for as-built records.
- Collaborate with construction and quality teams to resolve material-related issues and propose practical solutions.
- Contribute material status and testing insights to regular reports.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
- Technical diploma or degree in a related discipline with at least 5 years of relevant experience; alternatively, a Civil Engineering degree with minimum 3 years’ experience in utilities projects.
- Prior experience working within the UAE construction industry is mandatory.
- Knowledge of common field and laboratory testing techniques and equipment.
- Ability to interpret project specifications, drawings, and material submittals effectively.
- Excellent documentation skills with keen attention to detail for inspection and test records.
- Proficient in English communication, both written and spoken.
- Basic computer literacy with experience using MS Office and project management/reporting systems.
Preferred Attributes
- Understanding of local authority regulations and regional material standards.
- Certifications in material testing or inspection such as ACI or relevant local standards bodies are advantageous.
- Strong coordination and interpersonal skills for engaging with contractors, laboratories, and clients.
- Proactive problem-solving mindset focused on identifying and resolving quality issues promptly.
- Exceptional communication skills to articulate findings and collaborate effectively.
