Job Overview
The Material Handler will play a pivotal role in ensuring consistent production flow and effective shop floor operations by maintaining standard work-in-progress levels, correctly positioning components, and aligning material movements with production demands. This position supports continuous production, process transparency, one-piece flow, and adherence to standard operational procedures, ensuring operators have timely access to required materials.
Key Duties
- Maintain standard WIP levels along the production line to ensure balanced workflow and avoid interruptions.
- Place and organize components accurately in designated shop floor locations.
- Facilitate single-piece flow throughout the line to enhance production efficiency and minimize excess inventory.
- Monitor part movement post-takt completion to ensure timely and appropriate transitions between workstations.
- Oversee material flow and line conditions to maintain readiness and continuous process operation.
- Identify and report instances where cycle time surpasses takt time that may impact production efficiency.
- Support compliance to Standard Work and Standard Work Combination Sheets across the production line.
- Possess a comprehensive understanding of the entire line process to assist in material coordination and workflow effectiveness.
- Work collaboratively with operators and supervisors to guarantee the availability of correct materials at designated stations when required.
- Assist in line visual management and organization to clarify processes and optimize flow.
- Ensure a tidy, secure, and well-organized workspace consistent with 5S principles.
- Apply Lean manufacturing concepts actively within daily tasks.
- Spot and communicate opportunities for improvements in flow, cycle times, waste reduction, and workplace management.
- Engage in problem-solving efforts and support corrective measures related to material handling, WIP control, and process disruptions.
- Adhere to takt time and standard process flows to meet production targets.
- Operate shop floor software tools such as ELM, SmartShop, and MyAndon as needed.
- Comply with corporate quality standards, safety regulations, and procedural requirements.
Qualifications
- Diploma or technical college degree; or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience in manufacturing, material handling, production support, or industrial settings is essential.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- At least three years’ experience in Weld Repair or CNC Machining environments.
- Minimum two years’ experience supervising personnel.
- Solid understanding of Lean manufacturing, 5S methodology, visual management, and continuous improvement principles.
- Capable of detecting and properly escalating operational irregularities.
- Experience using shop floor management systems such as ELM, SmartShop, and MyAndon.
- At least two years’ experience working with gas turbine components or high-precision aerospace/industrial parts.
