Role Overview

The Maintenance Worker plays a vital role within the Roads Maintenance Team, working on preserving and constructing road infrastructure. Working alongside seasoned professionals, this position demands expertise in operating medium and heavy machinery, ensuring project quality and safety standards are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate and maintain various mechanical plant equipment including trucks, backhoes, loaders, skid steers, graders, rollers, and tractors.
  • Estimate labour, equipment, materials, and timing needed for diverse tasks.
  • Guide and supervise team members on assigned projects when necessary.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to internal teams and the public.
  • Maintain precise records and complete all related administrative duties.
  • Comply with council policies, occupational health and safety laws, and risk management protocols at all times.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Demonstrated experience operating medium and heavy road or civil maintenance machinery including trucks, backhoes, loaders, skid steers, graders, and rollers.
  • Valid Victorian driver’s license; possession of a heavy vehicle license or relevant plant operation certifications is highly advantageous.
  • Capability to generate basic resource estimates for labour, machinery, materials, and time requirements.
  • Confidence in providing practical guidance and supervision on-site.
  • Strong knowledge and daily application of occupational health and safety legislation and risk management principles.
  • Effective communication skills and a customer-oriented approach when interacting with colleagues, contractors, and residents.
