Role Overview and Responsibilities
- Execute preventative maintenance tasks for various equipment and recommend or perform minor to moderate repairs, including work on program vehicles, faucets, toilets, and lighting fixtures.
- Carry out small renovation projects such as drywall installation, minor electrical and plumbing repairs, carpentry, and painting, while reporting safety and major repair issues as needed.
- Troubleshoot building systems at a minor level.
- Assist in preparing tender specifications and oversee the quality of work by external contractors and maintenance staff.
- Manage supply receipt, storage, and distribution across departments.
- Create and monitor preventative maintenance schedules and recommend necessary repairs or equipment purchases.
- Maintain a detailed logbook recording all tasks performed during shifts.
- Coordinate with contractors for scheduled services.
- Ensure employee health and safety remains a priority through meetings, notifications, and adherence to policies.
- Oversee data entry and management related to equipment and repair parts.
- Maintain facility upkeep including scheduled weekly, monthly, and yearly maintenance.
- Manage outdoor property care such as lawn mowing, snow and ice clearance, window cleaning, litter collection, sweeping, gardening, watering, pruning, and raking.
- Monitor security measures and report any breaches.
- Regularly communicate with the Managing Director and, if necessary, the Occupational Health and Safety Committee.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Communication and Reporting
- Maintain written logbooks and complete maintenance forms.
- Request quotes from contractors and liaise with external agencies for facility inspections.
Working Environment
- Work occurs inside the entire facility and on its grounds.
- Tasks require attention when handling motorized equipment, hazardous chemicals, and general maintenance tools.
- Physical requirements include lifting objects mostly between 20 to 29 pounds, occasionally up to 40 to 50 pounds, ladder usage, and fine motor skills.
- The role involves exposure to various challenges such as machinery noise, confined spaces, temperature variations, dealing with distressed individuals, exposure to drugs and alcohol, possible verbal abuse, lifestyle impacts due to scheduling, isolation, weather conditions, toxic chemicals, infectious diseases, bodily fluids, electrical hazards, and risk of injuries like cuts, punctures, back injuries, and carpal tunnel syndrome.
Qualifications and Experience
- Completion of High School education.
- Training in WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System).
- Valid British Columbia driver's license.
- Successful completion of background and screening checks, including The Salvation Army Abuse Registry, with provision of original documentation.
- Between one and two years of relevant experience including custodial services and general repairs such as electrical and plumbing.

Compensation and Accommodations
The salary for this position ranges from $23.95 to $24.33 per hour, with a maximum of $24.70. Placement within this range depends on market factors, internal equity, experience, skills, and qualifications.

Minimum education
Higher Secondary (Class 12)
