Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the main liaison between maintenance and plant departments to ensure timely, efficient, and quality maintenance support to assigned production units.
  • Manage both long-term and short-term maintenance planning, analyzing backlog versus resource availability to foster a proactive maintenance culture.
  • Schedule maintenance activities in advance to meet regulatory, safety, and production capacity requirements, enhancing equipment uptime and reliability.
  • Integrate continuous improvement methodologies to refine maintenance work plans, ensuring quality, accuracy, and effective execution of future tasks.
  • Maintain and update job plans for efficient scheduling and optimal resource allocation.
  • Keep comprehensive asset data current, including master data, specifications, bills of materials, and work history, aligning with operational and organizational needs.
  • Collaborate with schedulers to consolidate maintenance tasks for simultaneous execution, maximizing maintenance opportunities.
  • Manage work orders from requesting departments, excluding urgent emergency requests handled by supervisors.
  • Create supplementary diagrams and clarify work order intents when necessary.
  • Review and verify work orders for completeness, priority appropriateness, and proper authorization, consulting with originating departments as needed.
  • Evaluate necessity of requested work and escalate unresolved queries to the maintenance superintendent or manager.
  • Coordinate with engineers on work orders requiring design input.
  • Define job scope and best execution approaches, consulting supervisors as needed.
  • Identify and procure required materials, verifying stock availability and reserving critical items.
  • Ensure safety considerations are prioritized during planning and scheduling.
  • Estimate job parameters such as steps, manpower, person-hours, and costs, including labor and materials.
  • Maintain backlogs organized by priority and scheduling readiness, filing jobs pending engineering, materials, or downtime accordingly.
  • Confirm resource availability before scheduling jobs and communicate special instructions as needed.
  • Understand PM workloads across departments to optimize scheduling efficiency.
  • Develop maintenance work schedules aligned with workforce capacity and skill requirements, coordinating manpower through supervisors and management.
  • Coordinate material reservations and safety arrangements in line with plant schedules.
  • Monitor ongoing work order costs relative to budgets.
  • Promote energy conservation initiatives.
  • Coordinate with other planners for multi-disciplinary job scheduling.
  • Participate in periodic cost analyses with management to recommend cost-reduction measures.
  • Keep management informed about critical or unusual situations for guidance.
  • Recommend system improvements and maintain records, reports, and reference libraries for recurring jobs and equipment-specific data.
  • Suggest additions to authorized inventory stock as necessary.
  • When assigned, perform other tasks from maintenance management.

Qualification and Experience Requirements

  • Technical background in Mechanical or Electrical fields preferred; technical school education desirable.
  • Possession of a valid Tanzanian driver's license.
  • Experience in manufacturing or industrial sectors.
  • Extensive hands-on on-the-job training.
  • Familiarity with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and Mines Health & Safety Act awareness.
  • Five to ten years of maintenance planning experience within the mining industry.
  • Competence in estimating labor hours, crafts, and skill levels for jobs.
  • Proficiency with SAP or equivalent maintenance management software.
  • Strong knowledge of modern maintenance and scheduling techniques.
