Maintenance & Engineering Safety Officer

Role Overview

The Maintenance & Engineering Safety Officer functions under the supervision of the Director of Safety and plays a vital role in ensuring compliance with safety standards in maintenance operations at flynas.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Ensure the maintenance manual complies with all safety standards and regulatory requirements set by GACA and IOSA.
• Guarantee strict adherence by maintenance personnel to safety procedures documented in the maintenance manual.
• Oversee enforcement of ramp safety protocols among maintenance staff operating airside.
• Report all maintenance-related incidents and accidents to GACA and AIB within a strict 48-hour window.
• Maintain timely uploading of all documentation and reports related to maintenance incidents into the safety management system.
• Coordinate with regulatory agencies such as GACA and AIB on incident investigations and provide necessary support as needed.
• Conduct thorough investigations into maintenance safety incidents, accidents, and any special in-flight occurrences.
• Perform safety risk assessments on all reported maintenance hazards, offering recommendations and corrective actions to the maintenance department.
• Assess and assign risk codes to hazardous conditions discovered during safety evaluations.
• Evaluate hazardous conditions through safety observations and on-site walkarounds.
• Monitor the implementation of corrective actions, propose preventive strategies, and analyze safety trend data.
• Carry out maintenance inspections and safety assessments to identify operational deficiencies.
• Ensure corrective and preventive measures address root causes effectively and are completed within appropriate timelines.
• Aggregate and analyze data from inspections and safety checks to identify trends and present findings to the VP of Safety & Quality.
• Compile monthly reports summarizing ramp statistics including aircraft damage and related incidents.
• Generate quarterly trend analyses for the Safety Action Group.
• Develop and deliver maintenance safety awareness programs aimed at enhancing personnel understanding and preventing aircraft incidents and accidents.
• Issue maintenance safety bulletins and memos to staff.
• Promote a strong safety culture and good housekeeping practises ensuring efficient maintenance at both the primary base and outstations.
• Create and update safety management system (SMS) training materials for maintenance personnel.
• Provide assistance and instruction to the maintenance team on Flynas SMS procedures.
• Continuously monitor and analyze the safety of working practices within maintenance activities.
• Undertake additional assignments as directed by the VP of Safety & Quality.

Qualifications and Essential Criteria

• A minimum of three years professional experience in engineering or maintenance.
• Bachelor's degree in a related discipline.
• Possession of any relevant aviation safety certification.
• Professional certifications qualifying the candidate in maintenance operations.
• Proficient with computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite and Google Office tools.
• Strong command of English language communication skills, both written and spoken; proficiency in Arabic is considered an additional advantage.
