Maintenance Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking a Maintenance Engineer to join the Engineering team at our Belfast facility in North Christchurch. This role focuses on hands-on engineering work, providing maintenance and technical support within a dynamic food production setting.

You will be instrumental in ensuring the dependability and efficiency of plant machinery by performing maintenance safely and effectively. Collaborating closely with production and engineering departments, you will handle planned maintenance, respond to equipment breakdowns, assist with new installations, and support continuous improvement efforts.

This position demands a proactive attitude toward troubleshooting, strong technical capabilities, and dedication to safety, quality, and operational excellence. You will engage with a variety of mechanical systems, contributing significantly to the success of one of New Zealand's premier food producers.

The shift schedule includes both day and night rotations, with 9-hour shifts starting at 5.30am or 3.30pm, Monday through Friday, including weekend work during peak periods.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical repairs and routine maintenance on site equipment and production assets.
• Execute planned maintenance tasks to enhance plant productivity and minimize equipment downtime.
• Respond to equipment failures promptly to restore full operational function safely and efficiently.
• Maintain pneumatic, hydraulic, conveyor, drive systems, and other related plant machinery.
• Assist with installation and commissioning of new machinery and plant equipment.
• Ensure all maintenance actions comply with food safety, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Keep accurate maintenance logs and track task completion using site management systems.
• Foster a safety-first culture through vigilant hazard identification, adherence to safe work practices, and permit-to-work protocols.
• Contribute to a positive team environment, support problem solving, and drive continuous improvement within engineering operations.

• Trade qualification in engineering or mechanical disciplines.
• Hands-on maintenance experience within manufacturing, processing, or industrial environments.
• Thorough understanding of mechanical engineering principles, maintenance systems, and reliability practices.
• Experience with pneumatic, hydraulic, conveyor, and mechanical drive systems.
• Strong knowledge of health, safety, and compliance standards pertinent to engineering contexts.
• Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate across multiple teams.
• Familiarity with computer systems, especially CMMS or similar maintenance management software.
• Attention to detail coupled with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
• Experience maintaining processing equipment; electrical system knowledge is an advantage.

Shift Pattern

Position requires flexibility to cover both day and night operations. Shifts rotate between 5.30am and 3.30pm starts, spanning 9 hours, Monday to Friday, with additional Saturday work during peak periods.
