Role Overview
Northpower seeks a skilled Maintenance Engineer to join its Network team based in Whangarei, New Zealand. This role is central to maintaining and enhancing the performance, dependability, and integrity of the company's substation infrastructure. Reporting to the Substation Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will deliver technical engineering support and collaborate closely with engineers, contractors, and asset specialists to optimise substation asset maintenance and contribute to critical network projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and refine substation maintenance programs and methodologies.
- Evaluate asset condition and maintenance data to pinpoint risks and avenues for enhancement.
- Conduct root cause failure analyses and execute initiatives to bolster reliability.
- Develop and implement maintenance standards, procedural guidelines, and quality assurance frameworks.
- Perform technical assessments, audits, and reviews of maintenance operations.
- Provide engineering expertise for substation refurbishments, projects, and asset replacement schemes.
- Offer technical support and supervision to contractors and specialist service providers.
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with regulatory, industry, and internal Northpower standards.
- Contribute actively to sustaining the safety, reliability, and operational performance of the electrical network.
Candidate Profile
- Possession of a tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in substation engineering, electrical asset maintenance, or network operations.
- Strong expertise in reliability-centred maintenance, root cause analysis, and lifecycle asset management.
- Proven track record in creating maintenance strategies, standards, and structured work plans.
- Comprehensive understanding of substation equipment and maintenance practices.
- Ability to analyse complex technical data and convert it into actionable improvements.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with experience collaborating across contractors, suppliers, and internal teams.
- Strong problem-solving aptitude, communication, and report-writing capabilities.
