Job description
Job Overview
The Machine Operator I's main responsibility is to aid in the assembly and fabrication process of products by operating sheet metal machinery.
Key Responsibilities
- Fabricate piece parts according to schematics under the supervision of a Team Lead or Manager.
- Assemble fabricated parts into finished products.
- Interpret blueprints and program machinery to create required parts.
- Operate metalworking equipment such as brakes, shears, saws, punches, etc.
- Seek out or participate in training sessions for machinery operation as needed.
- Inspect and maintain machinery to ensure it operates properly; report malfunctions to supervisors promptly.
- Support tradespeople and supervisors in project progression while maintaining safety standards.
- Learn new projects and equipment usage, requesting training as necessary.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the department, including cleaning at shift end.
- Report any unsafe conditions or practices to supervisory personnel.
- Move materials using forklift or overhead crane if appropriately trained and authorized.
- Follow all safety regulations and company safety programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or apprenticeship related to metalworking is preferred.
- Experience with safe manufacturing practices from raw materials to finished goods.
Working Environment
- Work is conducted in a commercial or industrial setting.
- Manual dexterity is essential for tool use, awareness of inherent environmental hazards is necessary.
- Strict adherence to safety protocols including use of personal protective equipment.
- Prolonged periods of standing may be required.
- Overtime work may be needed occasionally.
Communication
Interactions primarily occur within the assigned team and reporting supervisors.
