About the Role
We are looking for a Machine Learning Manager to join our expanding team focused on an innovative AI safety mission. You will be responsible for leading and mentoring a group tasked with creating and deploying advanced machine learning models inspired by the Scientist AI framework developed by Yoshua Bengio.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Lead and inspire a dedicated team of ML research scientists and engineers driven by our mission.
- Collaborate with leadership and talent acquisition to grow the team via hiring, sourcing, interviewing, and onboarding to boost research productivity.
- Provide coaching and development for technical team members, fostering a supportive and high-quality employee experience.
- Promote an inclusive, collaborative, and intellectually rigorous workplace by leading with humility.
- Exhibit managerial courage to maintain a healthy and effective work environment during scaling.
Technical Leadership
- Oversee cross-functional teams addressing complex scientific and engineering challenges within a dynamic matrix structure.
- Manage and refine research workflows for reproducible and rigorous results at model frontier scale.
- Represent and advocate for the research agenda internally and externally, driving progress and resolving technical obstacles.
- Facilitate collaboration across projects to merge theoretical insights with advanced engineering efforts.
Required Experience and Qualifications
- PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
- At least 10 years of experience in machine learning and deep learning.
- Minimum 5 years in leadership roles managing projects and personnel.
- Proven experience leading machine learning and deep learning research initiatives.
- Expertise in foundational models.

- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, capable of simplifying complex scientific ideas for diverse groups.

- Demonstrated commitment to pushing research boundaries while maintaining a sustainable and healthy team environment.
