Job description
About the Role
This position entails designing and leading operations infrastructure services primarily focused on Linux, AIX, and Container platforms. The engineer will have full accountability for administration, lifecycle management, performance optimization, and automation within mission-critical Linux environments deployed on physical, virtual, and hybrid systems. Emphasis is placed on ensuring system stability, robust security, and ongoing optimization.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design and manage Linux systems such as RHEL, CentOS, and SUSE utilized in critical infrastructure.
- Oversee AIX servers operating on pSeries architecture, including setup and administration of LPARs, VIO servers, and PowerVM frameworks.
- Implement OS deployment automation and perform patching/configuration management using tools like Ansible and SaltStack.
- Integrate Unix systems with security protocols and monitoring applications to maintain compliance with established security standards.
- Troubleshoot performance issues by conducting root cause analyses on Linux and AIX systems and institute permanent corrective measures.
- Collaborate on disaster recovery preparedness and participate in high availability testing exercises.
- Provide expert technical support for infrastructure services by addressing incidents and supporting operational tasks.
- Assist with infrastructure projects and document configurations, incident reports, and other necessary operational records.
- Apply technical expertise consistently with best practices to resolve challenges related to Linux/AIX infrastructure.
Required Skills and Expertise
- Deep understanding of Linux operating system internals and kernel tuning methodologies.
- Proficient knowledge of AIX OS, PowerHA clustering, PowerVM virtualization, NIM, and VIO servers.
- Experience working with virtualization platforms such as KVM and VMware within hybrid infrastructure setups.
- Familiarity with CIS security hardening guidelines, log forwarding mechanisms, SIEM integrations, and compliance auditing at the OS level.
- Competence using automation tools including Ansible and Puppet for system management.
- Experience establishing centralized Linux management solutions, such as RedHat Satellite or SUSE Manager, for patch and configuration management.
- Insight into operations across hybrid IT environments integrating physical and virtual infrastructure components.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in a related discipline or an equivalent blend of education and professional experience.
- A minimum of six years' relevant industry experience, including at least two years in roles of similar scope.
- Proven capability in infrastructure technology analysis and technical data evaluation.
- A commitment to ongoing professional development to stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies.

- Advanced academic qualifications in a pertinent field are advantageous.
- Relevant certifications like Linux and AIX professional certifications provide added value.
