Job description

Position Summary

As the Lead Child and Youth Program Assistant, you will supervise program staff in providing age-appropriate developmental care and guidance for children and youth ages 6 weeks to 18 years within Child and Youth Services programs. You will ensure delivery of activities fostering social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth tailored to the needs and interests of the children and youth served.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor team members by instructing specific tasks, job techniques, and provide necessary resources such as written guidelines and supplies.
  • Create, plan, and execute educational lesson plans and schedules that are developmentally suitable and responsive to individual children and youth.
  • Oversee and ensure compliance with health and safety protocols during diapering, toileting, hygiene practices, sanitation, food service, safe sleep, and care of ill children.

Employment Conditions

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old and meet qualification, eligibility, and background screening requirements including a favorable adjudication.
  • Completion of an E-Verify employment check is mandatory.
  • Regular contact with minors necessitates immunization compliance, pre-employment physicals, and ongoing health monitoring.
  • Physical demands include the ability to lift up to 40 pounds and perform activities such as walking, bending, stooping, standing, and sitting on the floor frequently.
  • Must maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications and complete all required Department of the Army and service training courses.
  • Work primarily occurs mostly onsite at Child and Youth Services facilities including classrooms and outdoor areas, occasionally participating in field trips and extended hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required, with effective oral and written English communication skills.
  • Candidates must possess relevant childcare experience and education as follows:
  • Either 18 months of experience in group child/youth programs plus completion of Department of the Army standardized training, Child Development Associate credential, or Military School-Age credential;
  • Or 12 months of experience plus an associate degree (or 60 semester credit hours) or bachelor’s/advanced degree in early childhood education, youth development, special education, human development, or related behavioral sciences with at least 24 semester hours directly applicable to the age group served.

Additional Details

  • This position is located at the Stuttgart, Germany Child Development Center serving children ages 6 weeks to 5 years.
  • Applicants residing in the Stuttgart local commuting area are eligible to apply. Military spouse and family member preferences apply.
  • A one-year probationary period and completion of all required training must be fulfilled after appointment.
  • Application requires submission of a concise resume (maximum two pages) demonstrating relevant qualifications and transcripts in English if using educational credentials.
  • Foreign education must be evaluated and recognized as equivalent to accredited U.S. programs.
  • Permanent Change of Station costs are not authorized for this position.
  • The job is subject to pay banding with possible eligibility for Sunday premium and night differential pay as authorized.
  • Federal facility access may require proper identification compliant with REAL ID or Enhanced Driver’s License standards.
