Job description

Role Overview

This position involves providing developmental care and educational support for children and youth aged from 6 weeks up to 18 years old within Child and Youth Services programs. The assistant actively monitors safety and whereabouts of children during all activities, including daily routines, outdoor play, field trips, and special events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide age-appropriate developmental care and instruction.
  • Supervise children to ensure safety during indoor and outdoor activities and outings.
  • Support the implementation of structured, developmentally suitable programs following prepared curricula and activity plans.
  • Assist in serving or organizing snacks and meals.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies, including evacuations, illness, and physical or emotional needs.

Employment Conditions

  • Meet eligibility, background, and qualification standards, including favorable background checks due to working with minors.
  • A one-year probation period may be required.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old at appointment.

  • Completion of pre-employment and periodic medical exams to confirm the ability to safely perform job functions.
  • Must maintain up-to-date CPR and First Aid certifications.

  • Legal obligation to report any suspected child abuse or neglect.
  • Work schedule may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and both indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Travel for occasional field trips and off-post activities may be required.

Qualifications

Applicants must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent, with English communication skills both verbal and written. Experience and training requirements vary by level:

  • Entry Level (CY-01): Minimum age of 18 and a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Skill Level (CY-01): Same as Entry Level plus at least 6 months experience working with children/youth in group programs and completion of relevant training or equivalent college credits.
  • Target Level (CY-02): Same as Skill Level with at least 12 months experience, knowledge of child/youth development theories, and higher level training credentials or college credit in related fields.

Applicants may be required to submit transcripts or certification documents to verify qualifications beyond entry level.

Additional Information

  • This role is open to applicants residing within Europe and nationals of NATO countries due to employment regulations.
  • Applications are valid for 90 days and may be considered for multiple openings across program locations.
  • A recruitment incentive of $250 and retention bonus of $500 after six months of satisfactory employment are offered.
  • Childcare fee discounts are available for employees working at least 15 hours per week as follows: 100% discount for the first child and 25% discount for additional children.
  • This position participates in pay banding and may include Sunday premium and night differential pay.
