About the Role

With a history spanning over 165 years, NZI Insurance safeguards New Zealand businesses and is part of IAG New Zealand Limited. This role as Lead Buyer is pivotal in optimizing how we procure, manage, and distribute motor industry supplies including automotive parts, repair, logistics, and supplier performance. Situated centrally within our supply chain, the position demands a blend of commercial insight and relationship management to ensure efficient, compliant, and high-quality repair operations. This is a permanent, full-time position based across various New Zealand locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Negotiate commercial terms, pricing, rebates, and service agreements that create lasting value for customers and partners.
  • Forge and nurture trusting relationships with a wide array of industry stakeholders such as repairers, OEMs, dealers, dismantlers, importers, freight firms, and stock providers.
  • Collaborate internally and externally to identify and implement enhancements throughout the motor parts supply chain.
  • Support operational needs by converting commercial agreements into effective practical outcomes.
  • Create and manage performance measurement frameworks to monitor commercial, service, and operational results clearly.
  • Utilize data analytics, market trends, and sector knowledge to spot opportunities, back negotiations, and present sound recommendations influencing senior decisions.
  • Lead sourcing efforts, manage commercial activities, and drive continuous improvements across a dynamic portfolio of parts, services, and supply solutions.

Candidate Profile

  • Demonstrated experience in procurement, commercial management, supplier performance, or similar areas.
  • Strong negotiation and commercial acumen with a history of achieving sustainable business benefits.
  • Proven capability to build trust and influence a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience managing supplier governance, contracts, and continuous improvement programs.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, able to distill complex data into actionable insights.
  • Ethical, adaptable, and practical approach emphasizing compliance and safety. Automotive procurement experience is advantageous.
