Role Summary

As Australia and New Zealand experience significant transformations in their energy infrastructure, we are recruiting a Lead or Principal Power Systems Engineer to enhance our expanding Power team in the ANZ region. This pivotal role entails providing technical leadership on major utility, transmission, renewable energy, industrial, and energy transition projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert technical leadership in conducting advanced power system studies such as load flow, fault level assessments, transient stability, electromagnetic transient analysis, harmonic studies, protection coordination, and network performance evaluations.
• Lead and manage cross-functional project teams, ensuring delivery excellence in terms of technical quality, client satisfaction, budget adherence, and timeline commitments.
• Serve as a subject matter expert for power transmission, distribution, and generation projects within Australia and New Zealand.
• Oversee grid connection strategy development, registration, and compliance for renewable energy installations, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), industrial clients, and emerging energy technologies.
• Establish trusted advisory relationships with clients, guiding strategic decisions on network infrastructure, generation projects, and energy transition initiatives.
• Conduct technical reviews, enforce governance, and assure quality of power system models, analytical studies, and documentation prepared by project teams.
• Mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineers, promoting technical proficiency and professional growth within the ANZ Power team.
• Contribute to business development efforts through proposal creation, tender responses, client engagement, and opportunity identification.
• Support enhancement of Worley's power systems expertise, development of technical standards, and adoption of best practices locally and globally.
• Represent the company in industry forums, technical committees, and client workshops as a recognized technical authority.

Candidate Profile

• A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline is required; postgraduate qualifications are an advantage.
• Substantial experience in power systems engineering within utilities, consultancy firms, renewable energy developers, transmission operators, or heavy industry sectors.
• Proven track record managing technical teams and successfully delivering complex power system projects from initial concept through commissioning.
• Advanced competence in power system modeling and analysis software such as DigSILENT PowerFactory, PSS/E, PSCAD, or similar platforms.
• In-depth understanding of Australian and/or New Zealand power networks, encompassing transmission and distribution planning, operation, and grid connection protocols.
• Strong familiarity with relevant market regulations, technical frameworks, and standards, including NEM, AEMO, Transpower, Electricity Distribution Businesses (EDB), and applicable grid codes.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively engage with clients, regulators, utilities, and stakeholders on both technical and commercial matters.
• Robust leadership and mentoring skills, with a dedication to cultivating talent and building high-performance teams.
• Commercial insight backed by experience in supporting proposals, business development, and managing client relationships.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical information clearly to varied audiences.
