Position Overview

The Laundry Room Attendant ensures the effective, sanitary, and prompt processing of personal laundry, PPE, and camp linens within a remote lodge setting. Responsibilities involve sorting, washing, drying, folding, and tracking laundry items while adhering to hygiene, safety protocols, and preventing cross-contamination. This role supports the housekeeping team’s daily operations closely.

Key Duties

• Collect, count, weigh, and document all personal laundry using tracking sheets or a designated program.
• Assist housekeepers and guests with the drop-off and pick-up of personal laundry bags.
• Secure small laundry bags with zip ties, combining them in larger machines to conserve water and time.
• Retrieve personal laundry during scheduled evening shifts (e.g., 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm).
• Ensure all personal laundry is washed by early afternoon and dried by late afternoon.
• Prioritize specific clients to meet designated return times.
• Maintain continuous operation of washers and dryers, minimizing idle time.
• Run extra spin cycles on smaller washers for effective drying.
• Clean lint traps in small dryers after each load and large dryers twice daily, maintaining logs.
• Dedicate machines exclusively for PPE cleaning and track their return to assigned locations.
• Operate only authorized washers and dryers for clothing and washable materials.
• Load/unload machines and support teammates with high-volume laundry loads.
• Maintain the laundry room’s cleanliness and organization.
• Comply with safety standards including WHMIS and proper handling of chemicals and soiled linens.
• Report equipment issues or safety concerns promptly to supervisors.
• Assist the housekeeping and janitorial teams as needed.
• Perform other duties as directed by management.
• Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and sustain prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, and stair climbing.
• Work both indoors and outdoors in varied weather conditions accessing multiple facility areas.
• Adapt to repetitive tasks and fast-paced 12-hour shifts, particularly during peak operations.

Working Conditions

• Employees arrange personal transportation to designated dispatch points (typically Edmonton or Yellowknife).
• Role requires fly-in/fly-out travel to a remote Arctic site with possible weather delays.
• Shared on-site accommodations and meals provided.
• Extended absences from home on a rotational schedule.
• Fast-paced environment demanding physical endurance and long hours.
• Strict adherence to all client and company safety and sanitation protocols required.

Candidate Profile

• Previous experience in commercial laundry, housekeeping, or camp operations is preferred.
• WHMIS certification and safety training desirable or willingness to obtain them.
• Basic knowledge of industrial laundry equipment operation required.
• Ability to accurately track and record laundry volumes.
• Must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and criminal background checks.
• Strong organizational and time management skills essential.
• Self-motivated with ability to operate under limited supervision.
• Understanding of hygiene and infection control principles critical.
• Excellent communication, attention to detail, and ability to work cooperatively in a team.
• Physically fit, dependable, safety-conscious.
• Respectful and culturally sensitive, especially in Indigenous and Inuit working environments.

Compensation & Schedule

The Laundry Attendant role follows a rotational schedule of three weeks on-site and three weeks off. Work location is remote, accessible via air or ground shuttle. Shifts may include nights, weekends, holidays, and weekdays. Pay is hourly, starting at $20.17 CAD per hour.
