L2 Application Support Engineer - Integration & Middleware

Overview

The L2 Application Support Engineer will ensure the robustness and reliability of the enterprise middleware infrastructure, managing complex data exchanges among systems. This role focuses on maintaining high performance, security, and availability of Spring Boot services and IBM Cloud Pak for Integration (CP4I) components including MQ, App Connect Enterprise (ACE), and API Connect, deployed on Red Hat OpenShift.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead efforts to trace transaction flows from API Gateway through the Enterprise Service Bus to backend microservices.
• Perform deep root cause analyses for middleware faults such as message losses, synchronization issues, or JVM crashes.
• Govern platform stability ensuring efficient CPU/memory utilization and pod scaling within OpenShift.
• Manage and troubleshoot security mechanisms like Mutual TLS, OAuth2, and JSON Web Encryption/Signature.
• Troubleshoot ACE message flows, ESQL logic, and integrations with SAP, databases, and files.
• Handle IBM MQ queue management, channel retry issues, dead-letter queues, and message persistence problems.
• Resolve API Connect-related issues including API definitions, security policies, and Gateway latency.
• Analyze JVM dumps to tune performance and resolve memory or CPU bottlenecks in Spring Boot microservices.
• Debug connectivity issues of Spring Boot services using JPA/Hibernate and messaging platforms like JMS and Kafka.
• Use log aggregation tools like ELK stack or Splunk to correlate logs across distributed microservices for failure diagnostics.

Technical Expertise

• Expertise in IBM CP4I with strong knowledge of ACE, MQ, and API Connect components.
• Advanced skills in Java development, Spring Boot framework, including Spring Integration and Spring Cloud.
• Proficient in container orchestration platforms, mainly Red Hat OpenShift and Kubernetes.
• Understanding of communication protocols and data formats such as REST, SOAP, JSON, XML, AMQP, and MQTT.
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools like IBM Instana, Dynatrace, Prometheus, and Grafana.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in middleware or integration support roles.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• Residence within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is required.
• Ability to solve complex issues involving asynchronous communication and distributed transactions.
• Preferred certifications include IBM Cloud Pak for Integration Specialist and Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration.

Performance Metrics

• Maintain 99.99% uptime of critical integration components.
• Maximize resolution rates at Level 2 support without escalating issues.
• Minimize mean time to recovery for faults impacting message delivery.
