About the Role
Take charge as a Kitchen Manager overseeing daily food service operations at a school cafeteria, leading a team to prepare meals for hundreds of students. This position combines leadership and practical involvement in food preparation, staff training, inventory management, and maintaining cleanliness and safety standards in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise all aspects of food production and serving to ensure quality, safety, and appropriate portions.
- Train and manage kitchen personnel on recipe adherence, equipment safety, and sanitation practices.
- Handle daily and weekly documentation including reports, schedules, and paperwork.
- Monitor inventory levels, oversee ordering, receiving, and storage of supplies properly.
- Ensure cleanliness of kitchen equipment and report maintenance and repair requirements promptly.
- Maintain compliance with HACCP, health regulations, and ServSafe standards.
- Manage staff labor in alignment with scheduling and budget constraints.
- Implement company policies and conduct fair and consistent performance reviews.
- Maintain accurate records of temperature logs, cleaning routines, and overall food safety documentation.
- Oversee cash handling processes and ensure proper reconciliation.
- Serve as the on-site leader to keep kitchen operations running smoothly, safely, and efficiently.
- Complete assigned reports and tasks on schedule.
- Perform additional duties to support the school and food service programs as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
- ServSafe certification required or willingness to obtain prior to employment.
- Experience in food service necessary; prior involvement in school nutrition preferred.
- Supervisory experience is strongly favored.
- Familiarity with inventory management and ordering processes is advantageous.
- Effective communication, time management, and multitasking capabilities essential.
- Reliable transportation is a must.
- Comfort working in a school setting around children required.
- Must clear background and fingerprint checks.
- Preferred experience with POS systems and online reporting tools.
- Basic computer skills and math proficiency needed.
Physical & Work Conditions
- Must be able to stand throughout the entire shift and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent walking, reaching, bending, and hand use required.
- Kitchen environment includes moderate noise and fast pace.
- Standard full-time hours, Monday through Friday, with some flexibility for extended weeks.
- Participation in company meetings or trainings may be required.
