Their expertise includes Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and LiDAR technologies, catering to infrastructure and utility sector projects involving extensive spatial and 3D data sets.
Job Role and Responsibilities
The Junior GIS Specialist will contribute to projects centered on processing and analyzing aerial LiDAR and point cloud data related to utility and power infrastructure assets. Key tasks include processing, classification, and validation of LiDAR datasets, along with extraction and modeling of components such as power lines, conductors, poles, towers, vegetation, and ground features.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Between 1 to 4 years of practical experience handling LiDAR or point cloud data processing
- Proficiency in classification and quality assurance/control of point cloud data
- Experience working with three-dimensional spatial data
- Competency in extracting features from LiDAR data
- High attention to detail with the ability to identify issues in data quality
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of GIS concepts and tools
Preferred Additional Experience
- Familiarity with utility, power transmission, or distribution data sets
- Experience working specifically with aerial LiDAR data
- Knowledge of features like conductors, poles or towers, vegetation, and ground classifications
- Understanding of conductor and catenary modeling as well as clearance analysis techniques
- Hands-on experience with software such as PLS-CADD, TerraSolid/TerraScan, or MicroStation
- Background in utility asset modeling or mapping of power lines
