By leveraging innovative technology, our customers can move cattle calmly and efficiently without reliance on traditional methods like quad bikes or fences. This breakthrough is revolutionizing grazing practices and transforming the farming industry globally. At Halter, our culture emphasizes solving complex problems together within a high-performing and caring team, driving meaningful change in the world.

Role Overview

As a Junior Fleet Operations Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in supporting and improving our global hardware fleet that operates across farms and ranches. You will split your time between hands-on operational activities—such as monitoring fleet performance, troubleshooting issues, managing support tickets, and coordinating resolutions—and enhancing internal systems by creating tools, automations, and smarter workflows to enable scalable, efficient fleet management worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor fleet performance metrics to proactively detect issues related to collars and towers.
  • Respond to and investigate technical support tickets addressing collar and tower functionalities.
  • Assess and prioritize incoming issues based on severity and escalate when necessary.
  • Work alongside Tier 1 Support to ensure seamless transfer and resolution of technical problems.
  • Collaborate with Deployment, Product, and Engineering teams to communicate incident status, root causes, and coordinate follow-ups.
  • Maintain and contribute to comprehensive internal documentation and knowledge bases for common hardware issues.
  • Identify ways to reduce manual processes and improve workflow efficiency within Fleet Operations.
  • Design and develop internal tools, dashboards, and automation systems for enhanced fleet monitoring and incident handling.
  • Refine internal processes, including triage methods, escalation procedures, checklists, and automation to accelerate issue resolution.
  • Develop systems to raise early alerts through improved logic, trend detection, and automated failure recognition.
  • Integrate tooling enhancements with core engineering systems to boost data quality and visibility.
  • Occasionally participate in field visits to customer farms to assist with hardware troubleshooting alongside field teams.

Candidate Profile

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, capable of clarifying ambiguous challenges into actionable steps.
  • Comfortable handling system data, dashboards, tools, logs, and APIs.
  • A proactive builder mindset focused on improving internal tools, workflows, and scalability.
  • Robust technical troubleshooting skills with a practical, hands-on approach.
  • Meticulous attention to detail to detect patterns in data and translate them into effective actions.
  • Clear communication skills able to bridge technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Skilled at time management and prioritizing urgent support tasks alongside long-term improvements.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-changing environment with shifting priorities.
  • Motivated by supporting farmers and aligned with Halter’s mission to change global farming practices.

Additional Details

  • Full-time position based in Auckland headquarters with occasional rostered on-call duties.
  • Regular days off are Saturday and Sunday, with weekend on-call rotations.

  • Grow professionally and personally with autonomy, mastery, continuous learning, and access to a personal growth fund.
  • Tackle hard challenges and contribute to reshaping the agricultural sector alongside passionate colleagues.
