Transpower is the operator of New Zealand’s national electricity grid, ensuring constant, reliable electricity delivery from generation sources to urban centers and major industries across the country. Our role is critical in managing the power system to provide electricity whenever and wherever needed, around the clock.
Team Overview
The Application Services Group, part of the Information Services and Technology Division (IST), manages Transpower’s diverse application portfolio. The group ensures applications integrate seamlessly and cost-effectively to meet business objectives via acquisition, development, lifecycle management, root cause investigations, problem solving, and implementing improvements.
Position Summary
The IT Operations Analyst will primarily support a range of Transmission applications, focusing on incident management, troubleshooting, and maintaining operational efficiency. This hands-on role involves supporting daily operations, conducting technical analysis, managing minor enhancements and changes, assisting project delivery, transitioning solutions to operations, and applying DevOps principles such as automation to simplify routine tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage incidents and problems to resolve system issues promptly and within agreed service levels.
- Drive continuous improvement and reduce technical debt by thorough problem analysis and automating routine operations and service requests.
- Implement minor configuration changes, service requests, and enhancements via scripting or configuration adjustments.
- Deploy application patches and upgrades; assist infrastructure teams with operating system patching.
- Maintain service documentation, update support knowledge base content, and support disaster recovery processes as needed.
- Analyze application performance, query data issues, provide corrective data fixes, and contribute to service improvement plans.
- Participate in a 24/7 on-call support roster as required.
Collaborative Duties
Work alongside solution architects, designers, technical specialists, developers, and operations staff to define and implement change requests, support operational transitions, and contribute to automation, testing, and monitoring activities.
Qualifications and Experience
- Approximately four years’ experience in operations analysis, application support or a related role.
- Experience supporting critical systems operating 24/7.
- Proficient in incident and problem management across multi-team environments to resolve issues within SLA targets.
- Strong ability to perform root cause analysis using technical diagnostics, logging, and monitoring tools.
- Experience working in complex environments featuring diverse technologies, third-party vendors, and suppliers.
- Basic understanding of IT infrastructure and application architecture.
Desirable Skills (Not Mandatory)
- Familiarity with Openshift/Docker container technologies.
- Experience with Ansible automation tools.
- Working knowledge of Linux (Red Hat Enterprise Linux) and Windows operating systems.
- Experience with Atlassian products such as Jira and Confluence.
- Knowledge of Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana, and Grafana tools.
- Training or experience in ITIL framework or Configuration Management System (CIMS).
Additional Information
- This role requires participation in a 24x7 on-call support rotation on a rostered basis.
- Applicants must already have legal eligibility to work in New Zealand.
- Positions based in Wellington or Christchurch offices.
