About the Role and Organization
Transpower New Zealand is central to the country's electricity system, overseeing grid ownership, power system operations, renewable integration, and high voltage DC transmission. The organization is committed to facilitating New Zealand’s transition to a net-zero carbon economy by operating a reliable, secure electric grid.
The workload and complexity of projects are projected to more than double in the next five years, prompting Transpower to enhance its capabilities and evolve operational approaches. The Grid Delivery division is charged with ensuring the National Grid remains safe, resilient, and capable of meeting the evolving energy demands.
National Services provides leadership and standardization in operations and maintenance, ensuring network performance, asset reliability, customer satisfaction, and service excellence nationwide.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage national operations and maintenance services to optimize asset performance, network dependability, and customer satisfaction.
- Oversee the delivery of maintenance programs and initiatives aimed at improving safety, service quality, and operational productivity.
- Provide strong, visible leadership concerning health, safety, wellbeing, operational risk management, system resilience, outage handling, and major network events.
- Strengthen the National Services operating framework by defining clear accountabilities, decision-making rights, and integrating planning processes across delivery systems.
- Manage relationships and performance of service providers to enhance scheduling efficiency, productivity, and the throughput of national work programs.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate has senior leadership experience in complex operational environments such as infrastructure, utilities, or critical services, with the ability to lead leaders and manage geographically dispersed teams and external partners. They should demonstrate commercial acumen and be adept at balancing safety, reliability, customer needs, and cost considerations.
Required Experience and Skills include:
- Executive or senior leadership roles overseeing operational, maintenance, service delivery, or infrastructure functions.
- Proven ability to lead multiple teams and develop leadership capabilities while enhancing accountability and performance.
- Experience in optimizing service delivery models, operational governance, work scheduling, productivity, and process improvements.
- Strong commercial judgement and expertise in managing high-value contracts or complex supplier partnerships.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills across diverse internal and external stakeholders including regulators and community groups.
