Key Responsibilities

• Review inpatient medical records to accurately assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes.
• Evaluate clinical documentation to assure correct DRG assignment and reimbursement.
• Abstract and code diagnoses, procedures, complications, comorbidities, and discharge status.
• Guarantee coding compliance aligned with official guidelines, payer regulations, and client standards.
• Conduct coding quality audits while maintaining productivity and precision benchmarks.
• Initiate physician queries for incomplete, inconsistent, or ambiguous documentation.
• Work collaboratively with Clinical Documentation Improvement teams to enhance documentation quality.
• Ensure adherence to HIPAA regulations, patient confidentiality, and other healthcare compliance mandates.
• Keep updated on changes in coding rules, DRG revisions, and regulatory policies.
• Engage in internal audits, training sessions, and quality improvement activities.

Qualifications

• Certification in medical coding is preferred.
