Job description

Job Overview

The Inventory Specialist plays a crucial role in managing and optimizing stock for mechanical, electrical, and software components within a multidisciplinary engineering setting. This position ensures all parts, tools, and equipment — from standard off-the-shelf items to bespoke manufactured components — are accurately tracked and available to support workshop manufacturing, integration, testing, and field deployment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Maintain precise, up-to-date inventory records for mechanical, electrical, and software parts.
  • Oversee stock levels for off-the-shelf parts, raw materials, and finished goods.
  • Establish and uphold inventory control policies including defining minimum and maximum stock limits and managing critical spares.
  • Organize warehouse and workshop storage to facilitate efficient retrieval and traceability.
  • Ensure appropriate labeling, handling, and storage conditions, especially for delicate electronic and precision mechanical parts.
  • Support assembly, integration, and testing through kit preparation.
  • Prepare and monitor equipment, spare parts, and toolkits for field activities and operational missions.
  • Manage asset check-in and check-out processes ensuring full traceability of deployed components.
  • Collaborate with procurement to forecast material needs and trigger replenishments while monitoring supplier lead times and anticipating shortages.
  • Provide feedback for vendor evaluation based on component performance and reliability.
  • Maintain traceability of serialized components and align inventory with Bills of Materials (BOMs) for configuration control.
  • Track the lifecycle of parts, including availability, usage, repairs, and obsolescence.
  • Use ERP and inventory management systems to monitor stock movements and generate insightful reports.
  • Contribute to refining inventory processes and digital tools to enhance operational efficiency.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree or technical diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain, Engineering, or related disciplines.
  • Between 3 to 7 years of experience managing inventory or materials in technical or engineering environments.
  • Hands-on experience with mixed inventories covering mechanical, electrical, and electronic components.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and inventory management software.
  • Technical understanding of engineering parts such as mechanical components, connectors, printed circuit boards (PCBs), and cables.
  • Capability to interpret Bills of Materials (BOMs) accurately.
  • Knowledge of proper handling and storage for sensitive equipment including electrostatic discharge (ESD) controlled and environmentally sensitive items.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or similar data analysis applications.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in both inventory and data management.
  • Strong skills in organization, planning, and prioritization.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with engineers, technicians, procurement, and field teams.
  • A proactive mindset focused on continuous process improvement and operational excellence.
