Job description
About the Role
Palomba General Trading LLC is seeking a technically proficient Inspection & Checkweighing Systems Engineer to support complex industrial projects primarily across the UAE and GCC regions. This role centers on the deployment and integration of inspection and quality control technologies within food, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and specialty manufacturing lines. The appointed engineer will collaborate with industry customers, engineering teams, and global equipment suppliers to determine inspection needs, assess technology options, and facilitate seamless integration of inspection machinery into production and packaging setups.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze customer needs regarding product inspection and inline quality assurance.
- Assess characteristics of production lines, including throughput, speed, product sizing, and packaging forms.
- Assist in selecting metal detection and checkweighing equipment and configuring their operational parameters.
- Evaluate requirements for weighing precision and reproducibility.
- Review product and packaging traits that could impact detection or weighing accuracy.
- Define sensitivity standards for contaminant detection.
- Determine inspection protocols for both packaged and unpackaged items.
- Plan integration of inspection devices within existing manufacturing lines.
- Assess conveyor speeds, product spacing, and reject system mechanisms, including confirmation processes.
- Support technical specifications related to line control interfaces, including PLC integration, alarms, and safety interlocks.
- Manage data logging and production quality reporting.
- Analyze false reject versus false acceptance scenarios and optimize inspection efficiency without compromising line throughput.
- Support product trials, testing, factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT), commissioning, and validation procedures.
- Troubleshoot issues related to detection efficacy, weighing variability, or line integration challenges.
- Develop technical specifications and questionnaires; facilitate communication between customers and international manufacturers.
Technical Focus Areas
- Inspection technologies: metal detection, checkweighing systems, dynamic weighing, conveyor and product inspection, combined inspection devices, reject and validation systems, line monitoring, and quality control automation.
- Parameters managing checkweighing and detection performance such as nominal weight, tolerances, accuracy, product spacing, belt speed, tare variations, reject thresholds, and data collection.
- Metal detection specifics including ferrous/non-ferrous/stainless steel detection, sensitivity, product effect, aperture, test pieces, reject verification, validation, and calibration.
- Line integration with production equipment including filling, packaging, conveying, cartoning, bottling, sachet filling, tableting, capsule packaging, labeling, and end-of-line systems.
Application Domains
- Food manufacturing
- Pharmaceutical production
- Nutraceutical products
- Powder and premix handling
- Dairy, bakery, snacks, confectionery
- Bottled and sachet packaging
- Tablet and capsule packaging
- Packaged ingredient manufacturing
Candidate Profile
We seek an engineer with a deeply technical mindset and practical experience in industrial inspection integrated with manufacturing lines. Applicants should comprehend how product characteristics, packaging, conveyor configurations, production rates, and quality criteria influence inspection system performance. Candidates must recognize that successful inspection solutions require more than equipment installation; proper integration, validation, rejection management, testing, and process control are crucial. Applicants with backgrounds mainly in general sales or non-technical business functions are unlikely to fit the role.
Educational & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Automation, Industrial Engineering or related fields.
- At least 3 years of relevant industrial engineering experience preferred.
- Hands-on experience with inspection devices, checkweighers, metal detectors, packaging equipment, or automated lines favored.
- Knowledge of conveyors and production line integration.
- Basic familiarity with industrial automation and PLC interfacing.
- Ability to interpret technical schematics and equipment layouts.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities.
- Understanding of quality control standards.
- Proficient English communication skills.
Preferred Technical Expertise
- Metal detection and checkweighing systems
- Dynamic weighing, conveyor and reject mechanisms
- PLCs and automated production equipment
- Packaging line processes and industrial instrumentation
- Validation processes including FAT and SAT
- Equipment commissioning
Preferred Industry Experience
- Food, pharmaceutical, and nutraceutical manufacturing
- Packaging machinery and industrial automation
- Quality-control systems and process-equipment manufacturing
- OEM and application engineering roles
Compensation & Benefits
This full-time position is based in Dubai, UAE with a monthly salary range of AED 14,000 to AED 21,000 depending on the candidate’s technical expertise and qualifications. Performance incentives may be offered contingent on project responsibilities. The role offers exposure to international inspection and process equipment manufacturers, involvement in challenging technical projects across the GCC, and a multicultural working environment connecting industrial clients with specialized engineering partners. Professional growth opportunities are available within Palomba General Trading’s process equipment division.
