Infection Control Specialist

Role Overview

The Infection Control Specialist plays a critical role in designing, executing, and assessing the hospital's multidisciplinary Infection Control Program. This expert serves as a knowledgeable point of contact for all hospital departments, encompassing administrative, clinical, and support personnel, advocating for infection control measures.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure superior medical treatment quality, compassion, and understanding are consistently provided to every patient at NMC Hospitals and Clinics.
• Conduct frequent departmental rounds to engage with hospital staff on infection control practices, ensuring adherence and continuous improvement.
• Gather and maintain detailed data on hospital-acquired infections, tracking each case meticulously.
• Perform ongoing surveillance to identify infection sources, focused on preventing outbreaks.
• Support regular sampling of high-risk hospital areas for infection control monitoring.
• Investigate cases of nosocomial infections, preparing detailed reports for the Infection Control Supervisor and Chief Medical Staff.
• Develop and implement educational programs to enhance staff knowledge and skills regarding infection prevention, fostering a safe environment for patients and employees.
• Assist in organizing and participate in Infection Control Committee meetings.
• Identify and communicate any obstacles impeding infection control practice implementation.
• Collaborate closely with Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) staff to uphold sterilization and infection control standards.
• Verify that hospital staff members are free from contagious diseases.
• Engage in quality improvement initiatives, conduct in-service education, and participate in unit meetings as necessary.
• Take initiative in emergency safety and fire safety procedures when required.
• Lead training sessions to reinforce consistent application of infection control protocols.
• Ensure compliance with Saudi Arabian standards and regulatory bodies such as JCI and CBAHI, promoting best practices.
• Support preparation for licensing and accreditation surveys as needed.
• Advise on and assess hospital policies and procedures related to infection control.
• Educate patients and their families tailored to their needs, honoring their involvement in care planning and respecting their care choices, utilizing appropriate communication methods considering developmental, cultural, and linguistic factors, and thoroughly document patient education.
• Perform additional tasks related to the scope of expertise and assigned duties.

Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
• Preference for nursing staff with specialized education or training in infection control.
• Professional certification in infection control is desirable.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience working in infection control.
