General Practitioner - Home Care

Job Overview

The General Practitioner (GP) will deliver medical care to patients while upholding professional standards, ethical guidelines, and applicable regulatory requirements including CBAHI and JCIA. The role involves adherence to hospital protocols and Ministry of Health laws of Saudi Arabia to ensure high-quality treatment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-standard medical care respecting patient dignity at all National Medical Care facilities.
• Manage patient care within the scope of clinical competencies and privileges.
• Conduct thorough history taking, physical exams, and interpretation of routine diagnostic tests to establish management plans on admission.
• Perform daily rounds on inpatients, coordinating with consultants on patient care plans.
• Participate actively in department on-call rotations and morning clinical meetings with consultants and moderators.
• Admit patients referred from emergency or outpatient units in coordination with designated consultants.
• Evaluate new admissions, devise investigations and treatment plans in consultation with senior medical staff, and implement approved plans.
• Consult senior colleagues for cases requiring advanced expertise and document treatment plans and patient progress meticulously.
• Present daily admissions in morning reports when on duty.
• Carry out diagnostic procedures such as bone marrow aspirations, lumbar punctures, and cavity aspirations under senior supervision.
• Assist with outpatient medical services, including emergency department care, under senior staff guidance.
• Rotate through specialty inpatient units such as ICU, CCU, and Hemodialysis where necessary, supervised by senior staff.
• Prepare detailed patient documentation including problem lists, discharge summaries, death reports, and specific clinical reports as required.
• Contribute to continuing medical education via departmental meetings, tutorials, journal clubs, morbidity and mortality conferences.
• Execute administrative and organizational duties assigned by the Head of the Department.
• Engage in patient and family education per established policies, tailoring teaching methods to patients' cultural, developmental, and language needs, with proper documentation.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and maintain communication with patients and families respecting their care preferences and goals.

Qualifications and Experience

• Medical degree (M.B., B.S. or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
• Certification as a General Practitioner by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.
• At least two years’ clinical experience in medicine post-graduation.
• Valid medical license to practice in the specialty area.
• Preferred additional qualifications or specialization and academic affiliations.

Reporting and Collaboration

Reports to Senior Registrar, Consultants in internal medicine or subspecialties, and the Head of Department. Works closely with physicians, support service staff, patients, and their families.

Other Information

No supervisory responsibilities. Compliance with departmental policies and hospital by-laws is mandatory.
