Position Overview

The University of Otago Library is recruiting a Collections Assistant dedicated to the Hocken Published Collections. This role involves detailed collection management and facilitating access to these heritage materials for researchers and community members.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborate with Collection Assistants, Archivists, Curators, and Librarians to maintain and care for the significant published collections at the Hocken Library. Provide direct support and guidance to students, staff, and wider communities in utilizing these resources for diverse research purposes.

Candidate Profile

  • A genuine passion and understanding of the history and culture of New Zealand and the Pacific region.
  • Previous experience in libraries, archives, museums, or related heritage organizations.
  • A proactive and innovative approach to problem-solving alongside eagerness to continually learn.
  • Strong communication aptitude combined with excellent customer service abilities.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and unwavering accuracy in all tasks.
  • Proficient computer skills, including the use of databases and Microsoft Office, with adaptability to new software systems.
  • Capability to work independently within a skilled team environment without direct oversight.

Terms and Additional Information

  • This is a permanent, full-time role requiring 37.5 hours per week, primarily Monday to Friday, located in Ōtepoti (Dunedin).
  • Occasional rostered half-day shifts of 3.5 hours on Saturdays are required.
  • The salary range spans from NZD 63,508 to NZD 68,185, with a top salary of NZD 73,640.
  • Physical requirements include handling collection materials and working at elevated heights.
