The Career Development Centre team consists of professional advisers dedicated to assisting students in making well-informed decisions by exploring career opportunities, understanding the labor market, and developing effective strategies for transitioning into further education or employment.

Role Overview

As a Career Practitioner, you will provide expert career development assistance through individualized consultations, workshops, and specific programs. You will engage with students from diverse backgrounds and various academic levels.

Key Duties

• Provide personalized career coaching and guidance.
• Conduct workshops and employability skill programs.
• Support career pathways for postgraduate and research students.
• Create career-related resources and digital tools.
• Drive employer and industry engagement efforts.
• Manage career systems and perform reporting tasks.

You will empower students to recognize their strengths, explore avenues, navigate career changes, and acquire skills vital for success in an evolving job market.

Qualifications and Experience

Applications are invited from experienced career development professionals as well as individuals with strong transferable skills gained in education, student support, coaching, counseling, recruitment, or similar fields.

• Possess a relevant tertiary qualification in career development, education, psychology, human resource management, or a related area.
• Hold current Professional Membership with the Career Development Association of New Zealand (CDANZ), or be eligible for membership through a relevant postgraduate qualification and demonstrated career development practice.
• Have experience in delivering career guidance, employability support, student assistance, coaching, recruitment, learning and development, or related advisory services.
• Skilled in designing and facilitating workshops, presentations, or learning programs.
• Demonstrate strong relationship management and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
• Experience working with diverse populations and priority learner groups.
• Ability to analyze labor market data and convert insights into actionable advice.
• Commitment to culturally responsive and equity-focused practices.
• Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its practical application within student support contexts.

Additional Information

This is a full-time role, requiring 37.5 hours per week, based in Ōtepoti (Dunedin), New Zealand. Applicants must have legal authorization to live and work in Aotearoa, New Zealand.
