Head of Technology (Software Engineering)

About the Role

This FinTech company has created a new leadership role, Head of Technology, to spearhead their technology department. As the inaugural appointee, you will lead the technology function with a focus on software engineering, development, IT operations, and ongoing platform enhancement. Your core responsibility will be to build and scale a crucial business platform that supports lending, investing, loan servicing, investor administration, and unit registry operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and cultivate a high-performing software engineering team of around 10 members.
• Oversee IT operations, cybersecurity measures, and vendor management functions.
• Define and execute the technology strategy, including technical roadmaps and annual business planning.
• Maintain comprehensive awareness of technology capabilities, platform advancement, cybersecurity posture, vendor performance, and resource requirements.
• Direct Lead and Senior Software Engineers to ensure solutions are secure, maintainable, technically robust, and aligned with business objectives.
• Provide leadership in architecture, API development, system integrations, infrastructure, quality assurance, release processes, and production maintenance.
• Ensure thorough documentation and understanding of business rules are reflected accurately in platform design.
• Drive improvements in engineering standards encompassing documentation, testing, monitoring, deployment controls, and managing technical debt.
• Support initiatives related to data warehousing, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, and management reporting.
• Supervise the IT Operations Manager to guarantee that daily IT operations are stable, secure, and responsive.
• Manage cybersecurity risk, disaster recovery planning, business continuity, and technology-related risks across systems and vendor relationships.
• Foster and manage partnerships with software vendors, managed service providers, security vendors, consulting agencies, and delivery teams.
• Promote a culture that prioritizes practical software delivery, technical excellence, accountability, and continuous enhancement.

Desired Expertise

• Strong background in software engineering leadership with a history of building effective teams.
• Experience managing IT operations, cyber security, and vendor relationships.
• Knowledge of AWS cloud services, APIs, data platforms, Microsoft 365, Python with FastAPI, React or Next.js frameworks, and infrastructure-as-code practices considered advantageous.
