Role Overview
The Head of Software Engineering leads the Cloud Native and Custom Application consulting practice across Australia and New Zealand. Responsibilities span practice management, sales collaboration, partner and technology alignment, and software engineering excellence. This role involves building scalable, secure solutions, mentoring high-performing teams, and driving innovation aligned to Capgemini’s mission of fostering an inclusive and sustainable future through technology. The position can be based in Sydney or Melbourne.
Primary Responsibilities
- Serve as the subject matter expert in enterprise software engineering (SWE), communicating effectively with technical and business stakeholders, drawing on extensive project and domain expertise.
- Provide thought leadership on emerging technologies and trends, particularly AI software development lifecycle (SDLC) tools, to influence Capgemini’s market strategies and internal direction.
- Strategize and execute growth plans for the Cloud Native and Custom Applications teams, collaborating with sales and pre-sales to build pipeline and meet financial goals.
- Oversee delivery operations, act as SME escalation point, and advance best practices in software development, testing, and deployment locally and with global teams.
- Contribute to pre-sales activities by shaping solution proposals and ensuring quality in partnership with sales units.
- Build and mentor multidisciplinary engineering teams focused on cloud, custom apps, and application modernization.
- Promote a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Engage effectively with product owners, architects, business leaders, and partners to translate requirements into technical solutions and cultivate strong relationships in the partner ecosystem.
- Track success via client growth, team utilization and performance, increased learning hours, and gains in key partner certifications (Microsoft, AWS, GitHub) during the first 12-18 months.
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or related discipline.
- Over 15 years of software engineering experience, including at least 5 years in leadership roles.
- Deep expertise with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, and cloud native app development.
- Strong familiarity with modern software engineering practices spanning project management, tools, methodologies, and workflows.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Proven track record in enterprise-scale software engineering and transformation projects.
- Relevant cloud certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or Azure Solutions Architect.
