Head of Engineering

Overview

We are hiring a Head of Engineering based in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia to lead engineering consultancy and design services within civil, mechanical, and electrical disciplines. This role is a senior technical leadership position focused on advisory and design oversight rather than general management. It involves supporting the group's operating units, charitable projects, and stakeholders, ensuring quality and compliance across engineering deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide consulting services encompassing civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering to group entities and partners, including conducting site assessments, feasibility studies, and technical evaluations.
• Work as the owner’s representative in liaising with external engineering firms and contractors.
• Manage the creation and approval of engineering drawings, AutoCAD drafts, specifications, and design packages, including overseeing offshore CAD drafting and interior design teams.
• Maintain effective document control with the assistance of the department document controller.
• Offer engineering guidance on fit-out, renovation, and maintenance projects, reviewing scopes and materials, and advising on construction techniques and complex engineering challenges.
• Set and enforce engineering quality standards, ensure compliance with Saudi building codes and regulations, and perform periodic reviews of deliverables.
• Lead, mentor, and evaluate the internal engineering team and offshore designers; manage workload distribution and participate in recruitment and training.
• Prepare monthly reports on engineering activities, coordinate with operations management, and liaise with external consultants, contractors, and authorities.
• Support business development efforts through proposals and client presentations.
• Undertake additional duties as assigned by the General Manager within the role's scope.

Core Skills and Competencies

• Strong civil engineering expertise including structural assessment and construction management.
• Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and capability for reviewing and approving technical drawings.
• Understanding of Saudi building codes, municipal regulations, and industry construction standards.
• Ability to provide technical oversight on fit-out, renovation, and maintenance work.
• Leadership skills to effectively manage and develop in-house and remote teams.
• Excellent communication skills for explaining technical concepts to non-engineers.
• Strong organizational skills for document control and tracking deliverables.
• Problem-solving mindset with practical solutions suited to resource-limited environments.
• Collaboration abilities to influence through expertise rather than authority.

Experience and Educational Qualifications

• 10 to 15 years of experience in civil engineering with minimum 5 years in supervisory or leadership roles.
• Proven background in engineering consultancy covering civil, mechanical, and electrical disciplines within contracting or facility management sectors.
• Experience managing design teams including offshore or remote resources.
• Familiarity with fit-out, renovation, and maintenance projects in commercial or industrial facilities.
• Preferred experience within the GCC region.
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field is required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) certification or equivalent is preferred.
• Advanced degrees or professional certifications such as PMP or LEED are advantageous.

Language Requirements

• Native Arabic speaker.
• Advanced proficiency in English.
