About the Team and Role
Global Catalog is central to Walmart's retail ecosystem, providing product information management across online and physical stores for millions globally. It facilitates efficient product creation and management for suppliers and sellers, enhancing customer shopping experiences through high-quality data, rich content, and intelligent commerce solutions. As Walmart integrates advanced technology and AI, Global Catalog is pivotal in transforming commerce worldwide.
Based in Bengaluru, the Group Director leads technology strategy and execution for Global Catalog, collaborating with engineering leaders, product managers, business stakeholders, and data scientists to advance catalog capabilities and platform innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead senior engineering leaders, architects, and technologists to develop and enhance Global Catalog's product data, content, quality, seller enablement, and platform services.
- Develop and implement technology strategies and roadmaps aligned with Walmart’s business goals, commerce vision, and AI initiatives.
- Drive initiatives to evolve Global Catalog into a SaaS-style platform with scalable, reusable services, APIs, and platform foundations, accelerating enterprise innovation.
- Partner with cross-functional leaders to prioritize investments and deliver measurable outcomes for customers, sellers, merchants, and associates.
- Engage senior stakeholders across multiple domains to align strategies and ensure execution across a complex global system.
- Balance long-term architectural and platform investments with short-term business priorities to sustain technology growth and impact.
- Oversee the design and management of scalable, reliable, and resilient distributed systems within the Global Catalog ecosystem.
- Build, mentor, and manage a high-caliber engineering organization focused on accountability, innovation, and excellence.
- Enhance catalog quality, platform capabilities, operations, and engineering productivity using data-driven approaches, automation, and AI solutions.
- Provide technology leadership contributing to Walmart’s commerce and AI strategic direction.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Over 20 years of leadership in technology including managing large engineering teams (200+ engineers) and developing senior technical talent.
- Extensive experience with large-scale distributed systems emphasizing reliability, availability, performance, security, and operational excellence.
- Proven track record leading platform, commerce, marketplace, or enterprise product organizations to drive growth and technological change.
- Strong capabilities in modern software platforms, cloud-native architectures, data platforms, AI/ML powered systems, and platform engineering methodologies.
- Ability to define and execute technology strategies balancing long-term visions with near-term business needs.
- Excellent executive presence with strong stakeholder management, influencing capabilities, and collaboration across complex organizations.
- Experience building and nurturing high-performing engineering teams and cultures focused on innovation and excellence.
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field; experience in high-growth technology, eCommerce, marketplace, or platform domains is highly valued.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree with 6+ years in software engineering.
- Experience in digital accessibility standards (WCAG 2.2 AA), assistive technologies, and developing inclusive digital products aligning with accessibility best practices and company guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications Options:
- Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field plus 8 years in software engineering.
- Option 2: 10 years’ experience in software engineering.
- Minimum 5 years supervisory experience.
