Distinguished Technical Program Manager - Marketplace

Role Overview

We are in search of an exceptional leader to spearhead our most challenging and large-scale technical projects within the Marketplace division. This role requires translating complex strategic initiatives from concepts into worldwide implementations while working alongside executives, senior engineers, architects, and business/product leaders.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive company-wide, multi-year technical programs involving many teams and hundreds of engineers, ensuring strategic planning and delivery success.
• Collaborate closely with senior technical leaders to guide system architecture discussions focused on scalability, availability, and performance.
• Lead ambiguous, ground-up "0 to 1" initiatives by defining problems, aligning stakeholders across functions, managing dependencies, and creating detailed roadmaps.
• Eliminate organizational barriers by instituting scalable workflows, prioritization methodologies, and operational excellence tactics to boost efficiency.
• Serve as a trusted executive advisor, providing clear data-based program status, technical risk evaluation, and trade-off analysis.
• Champion the technical program management discipline through mentoring, hiring standard setting, and fostering high-performance teams.

Qualifications

• Over 15 years of experience managing complex strategic technical programs and outcomes, including at least 2 years in a principal or similar high-level individual contributor role.
• Strong technical expertise in system design, software engineering, and infrastructure, with deep knowledge of large distributed systems, cloud platforms, or AI/ML pipelines.
• Proven analytical problem-solving skills with emphasis on data-driven decisions and risk mitigation.
• Demonstrated success delivering large-scale, mission-critical software or infrastructure projects end-to-end on a global level.
• Exceptional influence skills to gain alignment without direct authority among diverse senior technical stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent experience.

Preferred Experience

• Background as a senior or staff software engineer or systems architect before transitioning to program management.
• Experience rescuing and successfully completing high-pressure, failing technical initiatives.
• Recognition within the tech community through speaking engagements, publications, or major open source contributions.
