Job description

Summary

The Grinder is a crucial role within Mattr's manufacturing operations, responsible for cutting, shaping, preparing, and grinding fiberglass-reinforced plastic parts according to specified requirements. Reporting to the Production Manager or Shift Supervisor, this position ensures the safe, efficient, and quality completion of products, supporting production schedules and assisting other assembly teams as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate machinery, power tools, and hand tools to cut, shape, splice, and fit materials into parts and assemblies.
  • Interpret and apply blueprints, drawings, and patterns accurately during cutting and grinding.
  • Prepare composite materials for joining various parts and assemblies.
  • Produce products adhering to established quality and safety standards.
  • Utilize materials efficiently to minimize waste and meet production goals.
  • Effectively manage time and materials while maintaining high-quality control standards.
  • Work diligently to support plant production and labor schedules.
  • Collaborate with team members to enhance productivity, workflow, and product quality.
  • Complete process sheets, timecards, and other production documentation accurately.
  • Transport and load shells onto carts as required.
  • Adhere rigorously to corporate safety rules, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Maintain a safe work environment with a proactive health and safety approach.
  • Report incidents promptly to supervisors and participate in investigations when needed.
  • Contribute to developing hazard assessments and standard operating procedures.
  • Suggest process improvements to Lead Hand, Supervisor, or Production Manager to boost efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Assist with additional assembly and indirect production tasks when necessary.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent educational background.
  • Prior experience is not mandatory.
  • Proficiency in operating equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Preferred experience in fiberglass-reinforced plastic manufacturing or similar environments.
  • Strong skills focused on production and quality within manufacturing settings.
  • Ability to read and comprehend blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Capability to work cooperatively within a dynamic team environment.
  • Quick adaptability in learning new tools, equipment, and materials related to above-ground and underground storage tank manufacturing and assembly.
  • Mathematical problem-solving skills relevant to tasks at hand.
  • Exposure to Lean manufacturing principles or environment considered an asset.
  • Physical ability to meet role demands including standing, walking, climbing, crouching, reaching, balancing, grasping, pushing, pulling, lifting, or carrying objects.
  • Comfort working amidst production environment conditions such as temperature changes, continuous equipment noise, dust, fibers, chemical or solvent fumes, and moving machinery.
