Graduate Backend Software Engineer – Multimedia AI Platform (2027 Start)

Overview

As part of TikTok's Media Platform Team, the VideoArch department is revolutionizing multimedia AI infrastructure, advancing beyond classic video processing to develop cutting-edge platforms powering next-gen AI applications that integrate vision, language, and generative AI technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and innovate a multimedia AI computing platform that facilitates large-scale multimodal data processing and supports foundational model training and real-time AI communication services.
• Architect and implement robust distributed infrastructure including data processing frameworks, workflow orchestration, task scheduling, resource and model management, alongside autoscaling capabilities.
• Create and optimize cloud-native systems leveraging Kubernetes, enhancing orchestration and scheduling across diverse GPU and CPU clusters for scalable AI workloads.
• Drive continual enhancements in scalability, reliability, performance, and cost effectiveness of TikTok's vast multimedia processing infrastructure that handles billions of daily videos.

Candidate Profile

• Candidates nearing completion or recently graduated with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software Development, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields.
• Strong foundational understanding of computer software concepts, with proficiency in Linux OS, storage systems, network I/O, and related principles.
• Experience or familiarity with programming languages such as Go, Python, or C++, including understanding of design patterns and sound coding practices.
• Excellent research skills, a strong willingness to learn, good communication abilities, and cooperative team spirit.

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to designing and building large-scale infrastructure, distributed computing systems, or cloud-native environments.
• Knowledge of AI infrastructure components, distributed data processing platforms (like Ray, Daft), or scalable computing architectures.
• Understanding of large language models (LLMs), multimodal AI models, and modern AI inference frameworks such as vLLM or SGLang.
