GIS & Location Intelligence Team Lead

This position offers a unique balance of hands-on technical leadership and people management within the Perth-based GHD Digital team. You will steer the expansion and delivery of GIS, geospatial, and location intelligence services, influencing projects across infrastructure, environment, water, energy, and natural resources sectors in Western Australia and the broader APAC region.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a specialized GIS and location intelligence team, promoting collaboration, high performance, and client-centric work culture.
• Manage workload distribution, oversee quality assurance, guide career development, and provide coaching to team members.
• Ensure technical governance and excellence in the execution of GIS and geospatial projects following industry best practices.
• Develop strategic direction and implement innovative GIS and spatial analytics solutions, leveraging data, automation, and AI tools.
• Advocate modern GIS and cloud technologies such as Esri ArcGIS, Azure, Fabric, and Power BI to enhance project delivery and value creation.
• Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to design and deploy geospatial innovations supporting client objectives.
• Contribute to business development through proposal crafting and engaging with clients to highlight GHD's GIS capabilities.
• Identify opportunities to integrate analytics, automation, and AI into GIS workflows to improve efficiency and insights.
• Promote best practices in data governance, spatial data management, and secure solution design across all activities.

Qualifications and Experience

• Proven leadership or mentorship experience within GIS, geospatial, or location intelligence domains.
• Deep technical expertise in GIS, spatial data administration, geospatial analysis, and enterprise GIS platforms.
• Advanced proficiency with Esri technologies including ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online.
• Consulting experience delivering GIS and location intelligence solutions in sectors like engineering, environment, infrastructure, or natural resources.
• Strong communication skills for translating technical concepts into actionable business outcomes.
• Collaborative leadership approach that fosters trust, team development, and continuous enhancement.
• Interest or experience in emerging fields such as data analytics, automation, AI, and machine learning relevant to GIS.

Educational Background

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in GIS, Geospatial Science, Geography, Surveying, Environmental Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.

Preferred Skills

• Hands-on competence in managing multiple concurrent projects, priorities, and stakeholders while maintaining exceptional delivery standards.
• Advanced abilities in spatial analysis, GIS configuration, data handling, Python scripting, and geospatial visualization.
• Experience or knowledge of data engineering, analytics platforms, automation, AI/ML technologies, and cloud-native services (e.g., Azure, Fabric, Power BI) is advantageous.
• Active involvement in business development tasks like proposal writing and client relationship management.
