Job description
Position Summary
The General Utility worker is responsible for keeping kitchen areas, equipment, utensils, and plateware clean, sanitary, and well-organized. This role supports food prep activities and promotes a workplace culture aligned with our core mission, vision, and values.
Key Duties
- Remove food residues and pre-rinse dishes before loading them into the dishwashing machine (approximately 50% of duties).
- Hand-wash or machine-wash pots, pans, and trays (around 15% of duties).
- Carry out all assigned food preparation tasks (about 10%).
- Dispose of trash and garbage by transporting to dumpster areas (approximately 10%).
- Clean surfaces including tables, walls, refrigerators, cooking equipment, and floors (roughly 5%).
- Sanitize garbage cans and trash bins (around 5%).
- Set up, maintain, and dismantle the dishwashing machine (approximately 5%).
- Lift and transport cases weighing up to 50 pounds multiple times daily.
- Place plates, utensils, pans, and cases on various shelving heights.
- Work primarily indoors (90%) with some outdoor tasks (10%), frequently in hot and damp conditions.
- Respond appropriately in emergency situations ensuring personal and others' safety.
Physical and Mental Requirements
The position demands physical exertion including bending, stooping, lifting up to 40 pounds regularly, standing for long durations, and moving between work areas. Employees must manage wet floors, temperature variations, and loud noise. Good vision, including close-up focus adjustment, is essential.
Mental abilities include reading and understanding documents and instructions, problem-solving with limited standardization, effective oral and written communication, teamwork, adaptability to fast-paced changes, and flexibility.
Work Environment
Work is mostly indoors with occasional travel to various field locations. Reasonable accommodations can be made for disabilities if they do not cause undue hardship.
