Job description
Position Overview
The General Utility Worker plays a vital role in maintaining cleanliness and order within kitchen areas, including utensils, plateware, and equipment. This position supports food preparation efforts and upholds the cultural values and mission defined by the TSFR Roadmap.
Primary Responsibilities
- Remove food residue from dishes and prepare them for dishwashing (approximately 50% of time).
- Clean pots, pans, and trays using hand-washing or dish machines (about 15% of duties).
- Carry out assigned food preparation tasks (roughly 10% of responsibilities).
- Dispose of trash and garbage by transporting it to the dumpster area (10% of role).
- Sanitize work tables, walls, refrigerators, cooking equipment, and floors (5% of activities).
- Clean garbage cans and trash bins (5% of tasks).
- Set up, maintain, and dismantle dishwashing machines (5% of job time).
- Lift and move cases weighing up to 50 pounds, repeated up to 20 times per day.
- Handle plates, pans, utensils, and cases stored on both high and low shelves.
- Work predominantly indoors (90%) with some outdoor tasks (10%).
- Adapt to hot and humid conditions and respond appropriately in emergencies to prevent harm.
Physical and Mental Requirements
The role requires capacity to read and comprehend operational documents, write routine reports, and communicate clearly. Problem-solving skills are important when dealing with variable situations with limited standardization. Physical tasks include frequent sitting, talking, hearing, walking, and manual dexterity. The environment involves exposure to wet floors, temperature fluctuations, noise, and requires bending, lifting dish racks up to 40 pounds regularly, standing for extended periods, and moving between work areas. Visual acuity is necessary including close focus adjustment.
Mental demands involve functioning well within a team, managing a fast-paced environment, adapting to change, and effective verbal and written communication.
Work Environment and Additional Information
Work is primarily onsite with occasional travel to other field locations, independently or with a colleague. The employer reserves the right to alter or reassign duties as needed to meet business requirements.
