General Utility Worker

Job Overview

The General Utility Worker is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and order in kitchen areas, handling equipment, and assisting with food preparation, all while supporting the organization's culture and core values.

Key Responsibilities

• Scrape and pre-rinse food debris from soiled dishes, then load them into the dishwashing machine, taking up roughly half of work time.
• Hand-wash or machine-wash pots, pans, and trays.
• Perform all designated preparatory kitchen tasks efficiently.
• Remove trash and transport garbage to the dumpster repeatedly throughout the day.
• Clean work tables, walls, refrigeration units, kitchen equipment, and floors.
• Sanitize garbage cans and waste receptacles.
• Set up, operate, maintain, and dismantle the dishwashing machine.
• Lift and carry cases weighing as much as 50 pounds up to twenty times daily.
• Place kitchen items such as plates, utensils, and pans on shelving of varying heights.
• Work mostly indoors with occasional outdoor duties and frequent exposure to hot, humid conditions.
• React appropriately during emergencies to ensure safety.

Physical and Mental Requirements

• Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple correspondence and reports.
• Capable of understanding various instructions presented in written, verbal, or diagrammatic form.
• Physical capability to bend, stoop, lift heavy objects regularly, stand for extended periods, and move throughout the workspace.
• Exposure to wet floors, loud noises, and fluctuating temperatures.
• Must possess close vision and adequate visual focus adjustment.
• Ability to work effectively within a team, adapt to fast-paced change, and communicate verbally and in writing.
• May occasionally travel by car to different work locations, independently or with colleagues.
